I had to ream my Apex barrel as well.

I’ve also done quite a few factory 2.0 barrels for guys - they’re hardened steel and your average reamer will get destroyed because it’s softer than the barrel.

5th gen glocks, Shadow 2s, and M&Ps all have short chambers incredibly hard barrels which require a tungsten carbide reamer. So did half of my Walther PPQ & PPSs, for that matter: I don’t like loading to different lengths for different guns. That’s why I have a tungsten reamer now. ;)

Where did you purchase your reamer from? I have 3 M&P's that I would like to ream the chambers on.

  2. I just watched your Humble Marksman interview. I'm digging your non-traditional approach to training. It's pretty refreshing to see someone actually think outside the box and have the results to back it up. I'm sure there will be haters that want to see you fail simply for training differently.

  3. The only way to tell is to slug your barrel, mic the sample and know the true diameter of your barrel. The bullet needs to seal the bore. Basic stuff for running lead bullets. The problem is when you try to skip steps and treat loading cast lead like you're running an FMJ. Coatings aren't magic, you're still loading a cast lead bullet. Ones reloading practices should reflect this. You can have a perfect application of Hi-Tek and the coating will fail with an improperly sized bullet. It happens with every manufacturer.

Most commercial bullets manufacturers are hopefully using certified foundry alloys and that will eliminate questions about hardness issues.

I've seen a lot on Insta about LAPD Swat from STI. My question is this, Does the Department pay for the guns? I seem to have a hard time believing that your run of the mill officer will fork over their personal money for a 2011 when they can buy a glock for 400 bucks. From my experience most cops aren't shooters or gun guys. Now I could see if the Dept gives the option and you wanna spend your own money, ya maybe a 2011 is for you. But still I would rather lean towards to glock than a 2011.

You can see in STIs new marketing that it would appears lots of Mil/Vets are employees and they are pushing for Mil/Leo stuff. Like discontinuing the 1911s, cops dont carry those so why sell them.

Most of the time when you see a dept that authorizes a 1911/2011 platform then the officer is paying for it.

The guys that don't mind spending that on a 2011 are the gun guys of the dept. Your "run of the mill" officer won't buy a 2011, much less a new gun for duty use.

You also have to remember, not all police agencies issue weapons. I work for a large agency and we have an authorized list of weapons to pick from, the officer purchases the weapon that best suits him/her. I much prefer that over being told I have to carry a weapon that might or might not like.

I've attached a couple pics below.  I took a random sampling of 10 and these in the photo all look like they didn't get lead in the groove.  Could that cause the leading issue.  Again, not trying to rip on the company, I would like to keep using their stuff, but I would also like to find a solution to this problem.

The interior of the lube bands aren't touching your bore, its unlikely that's causing the leading issue. At the end of the day, Hi-Tek isn't a cure all, you're still shooting a cast lead bullet. Have you ever slugged your bore to determine your true diameter? Ideally you want want your bullets sized .002 over your bore diameter. I'm sure Brazos will be along shortly to help out.

My first guess would be that it's a sizing issue rather than a coating issue.

However, I did a LOT of experimentation with Hi-Tek a few years ago and it can be very finicky coating to apply. I had batches of bullets that would randomly have coating failures. These were batches made using the same application methods and baking temp/ times that had previously worked for thousands of bullets. I never really figured it out. My biggest gripe with Hi-Tek is that there are no US made competitors to offer a similar product with better technical support. Ultimately, I was never able to come up with reliable answer for the coating failures, my best guess was temperature / humidity variability effected drying and baking times. I kinda gave up on figuring it out and dealt with an occasional bad batch whenever it came up.

  6. I have a sample pack coming today from Brazos Precision. They actually sell by the pound. Hi-Tek coated 9mm 124gn will cost you $186 shipped for 3,360 bullets. I'm hoping they're good!

Brazos Precision is legit. I sold the owner my Magma Mk 8 Bullet Master and Lube sizer. I would take advantage of his prices while he's new to the market and his prices are low.

  7. Ive been following reviews of the mk7 for the 1050's on facebook. Those that own them really like them. Personally, I wouldn't want to run one on a 650. Too many plastic parts on a 650 including the indexer ring. For the cost of the 1050 mk7, I can buy another 1050, MBF, and an ammobot.

  8. A company names Shooters World is now importing Lovex powders that are along the Titegroup / Win231 burn rate. I guess I will start stocking up on these while its still relatively cheap and plentiful right now. 231 is my most frequently used powder, hate to see it go.

  9. Interesting indeed.....but $2500

Well $2,500.00 is certainly an interesting starting place. Unless I miss my guess there will not be just a ton sold. The R&D may eat them up to recover. So lets see...... 1800.00 Dillon + 2500.00 Mark 7 + 350.00 Bullet feeder. So out the door no tax or shipping a total loader would cost $ 4, 650.00 Really!

    Yes, interesting indeed.....

Well, for double you can buy a CamDex to do pistol I believe... Aren't they in the $10k range? Camdex does more than double of the Mark7 in speed.

For a CamDex to do Rifle its like $75k?

Or was that Ammoload... I forget.

Camdex for pistol is running around 30k
  10. Im a fan of plain old tumbling in dry media. Quick and easy and get back to reloading ammo instead of drying cases. If you want pretty brass then stainless is the way to go but I dont need pretty I just need it clean enough to go bang.

  11. Franco79: Send Dillon an E-Mail with your needs. The Forum is for questions about the product.

Andre3k: " Needless to say it was missing many parts direct from Dillon". Why ? My presses have always come with what I needed and had purchased. Dillon in the past has been good about giving a spare part or two to help out. If I got a press without a powder measure or a priming system I wouldn't expect Dillon to "replace" an item that hadn't been broken or that I hadn't purchased.. At what level do you expect Dillon to give free stuff that you had never bought or owned in the first place? Not trying to be antagonistic, just curious.

This isnt my first go round with Dillon precision products. Like I said before I have owned virtually every product they produce. This is the first time I ever received a brand new package that was missing parts. It was missing the cartridge bin, large powder bar and the spent primer cup and two screws. In 15 years their no bs warranty has held true until I spoke with that one rep. I made another phone call and got what I needed. No big deal just expressing one of the less pleasant experiences I had with dillon but they made it right and i will continue to buy their products.

  12. I havent used their forum but ive been owned every dillin press over the last 15 years. I picked up a NIB 550 from a friend that bought it new from grafs. Still unopened. Needless to say it was missing many parts direct from dillon. I called and asked for replacement parts and they proceeded to tell me that the warranty is only good for the first owner and that they couldnt send me replacement parts. Never heard that one before. Hung up and called back a few hours later and immediately got what I needed. Im thinking maybe they got some new people answering the phones that arent up to speed yet. Maybe the forum is experiencing the same.
