  1. Admittedly, I'm new to competitive shooting. One of the things that I learned yesterday whule talking with a USPA GM was the benefit of dry training. For years I had heard about dry firing - but never the thought of dry training.

If I understand it correctly, dry training does not require "dropping the hammer" or engaging the firing pin - it's more so speed to target aquisition, trigger squeeze and reload.

    Correct?

The last thing that they said was - "If you're going to spend money at the range, work on something that you can't work on with dry fire - strong hand only, week hand only, shots at 25 or more hards.

    Opinions?

    Thanks

  2. Welcome

Sounds like the M's were shooting Open?

Production GM's would shoot a little slower than a Open, maybe 2 second max on a stage. On a simple stage times would be similar but on a complicated stage the Open gun pulls away dramatically.

Just trying to make the point that you are not limited by your gun because you are shooting against people with similar equipment. You are limiting yourself.

But the real truth is it doesn't matter that much(gear), as you get good.

I was the only person there shooting "Single Stack" - limited to 8 rounds per magazine generally meant 4 reloads per stage.

I think next time I'm going to shoot Production.

Looking forward to learning from you guys.

  3. WOW. Let's talk about fast paced.

I was fortunate enough to shoot with a Grand Master and several Master level shooters. This was very helpful because they opened up my eyes in terms of ways to shoot a couple stages.

I primarily carry for self defense purposes and today was shooting Production Class Single Stack. For the most part I was 2x or more slower than the other shooters, had to reload more. But, I only had 4 misses across all 6 stages and a lot more Alphas than Charlies and Deltas combined.

Overall, very satisfied with my first time out. Looking forward to doing it again next month.

I got a lot of good pointers from here that I was able to use: like don't waste time at ports by placing the gun through the port.

I am going to spend a lot more time practicing reloading.

I don't think I'm ever going to be as fast as the GMs and Ms because I will always shoot my production/carry guns - but I do like the concept of running between shoot zones - it's all a learning experience.

Looking forward to learning more from you guys.

    Thanks.
