  1. I used to wear the cheap foam plugs and would add muffs for CF rifle. Then about two years ago a vendor at a match was making the molded plugs and I bought some. I wish I'd done it sooner. I don't double up with the molded plugs and have had no discomfort even with my 3Gun rifle brake.

  2. Long story short I had to replace the slide on my 2011. STI sent me a new slide in white metal, cut for the Bomar rear I had on my old slide. My sight is an older Bomar with the elevation screw that goes down into the slide. While they cut it, there is no hole tapped for the elevation screw.

Does anyone know the size/thread pitch for the screw. I really don't want to deal with shipping it back and forth just to drill a hole.

    Thanks

  3. Mine arrived yesterday. I pre-ordered it in late March 2010 from EuroOptic. I was going to get a Kdot and heard of the ZD. I decided to stick it out with my Millett until the ZD came out.

I'm really happy with it. Quality is on par with Meopta. It's super clear and light gathering is quite impressive. Clicks feel positive, excellent fit and finish etc. The reticle is just what I wanted. Not too busy but I think with a little practice will be quite effective. The illumination is daylight visible like the std. Kdot (even with the shorter length). Like I said, it just got here yesterday so I haven't gotten any range time yet. My next two weekends are already spoken for so hopefully I'll get to the range around the 25th or 26th.

  4. I don't know how they do it. I've had a plug work loose w/my AR and had to re-position the plug before I could take another step.

I had a HP rifle coach tell me when I was a kid, if you didn't want to wear hearing pro... "That ringing sound is your hearing dying. Enjoy that tone 'cause once it stops, you'll never hear it again...."

  5. Didn't mean to upset you and wasn't attacking GSSF's sqauding. You might want to re-read my post. I specifically said the it was not USPSA.

You're right I misspoke on the # of entries up at a time, my bad. I did follow Glock's rules on our stage with entry numbers, shooter order, etc. and didn't have too many issues. We were told multiple entry shooters could take two runs and then we needed to run someone else (ie not have one guy shoot all five of his runs at once). Additionally if they were shooting three divisions and none of the other shooter's minded we were told that three runs at once were o.k. I wasn't talking about people that showed up and didn't follow the rules. As far as I can remember most of the shooters signed in at the three stages the way they were supposed to.

I also did not take into account the number of shooters at other matches. Last year, the first GSSF match in AL (ever AFIK) there were about 235 shooters. This year that number was up to somewhere between 275-280.

  6. I've RO'd the GSSF in Anniston for the last two years. Like other folks mentioned it's a great match to get someone started shooting competition (which was the idea behind it in the 1st place). They do give a way a bunch of pistols too... Keep in mind it's not USPSA and the "squading" works a little differently. They sign in at each stage and write the time down. Then when they decide they want to shoot the stage they put an "X" by their name. According to the RO directions, you're supposed to squad about 8 or 9 folks at a time. I follow it up to this point.

My problem with it was if two guys arrive at the same time to shoot the stage and X their names you can have issues. For example, if guy A got there first but guy B signed in earlier in the day then Guy B is supposed to get to shoot first. There were some that would sign in at 9:00 for five or six divisions and then disappear. One thing about these matches is a bunch of folks show up. The rush didn't lighten up until after lunch on Sat. It didn't seem fair to me that a guy patiently waiting to shoot could get bumped by a guy based on the first time they came by and not the time they came to actually shoot.

A word of advice, if you show up to shoot about 2:00 or 2:30 there's hardly a line. Another RO and myself shot the match Saturday afternoon when our stage slowed down. I think it took us about 10min counting the time walking between stages. If you get there early in the morning be prepared to do a lot of sitting. I was really surprised by the turn out and distance that some folks would travel to shoot the match.

  7. My first centerfire pistol was a G17 my Dad bought for me when I was around twelve or thirteen. I guess due to my hand size/strength at the time I started wrapping my weak hand index finger around the front of the trigger guard. I realized recently (now thirty-four) that it's causing a problem. I guess I'm applying too much pressure with my finger. My second shot is kind of sloppy a lot of times. It appears I'm pulling them down and normally left. I've been working on it with dry-fire practice at home but it's still about every second or third draw I find my index finger has found it's way back up on the trigger guard.

At today's match I made a conscious effort to keep my finger down with the rest of them. I'm getting better but still caught myself doing it a several times. On the stages where I kept it off the trigger guard my times felt faster, cadence was smoother, and hits were better.

I guess it's just going to take time and a lot more practice. Anybody got any pointers to un-train myself?

  8. Stage 3 harder than you planed......what you talking bout Willis.......what was hard about it :surprise:

Just think how EASY the other matches this year will seem.....I liked what Sono told me "The most challenging do able stages I've ever seen."

I'd planned on taking a knee but for some reason when the timer was running I decided to sit down. I dropped down a little harder than I thought and bruised my tail bone a little... I was hobbling around Saturday night and ended up having to self-medicate until the wee hours of Sunday morning. I don't think there was any beer left in B'ham Sun... Side note: I think the Gary Coleman reference would be better used for a comment about the shoot house ;)...

  9. gaaack...

    Did it again.

Rushed through the walk through on a long complicated field course. Visualized the first several shooting positions, rushed the last as I was short on time. Didn't visualize the wide transition through the last port onto the last target waaay off to the side.

Guess what? The course ran EXACTLY as visualized.

    Two mikes, FTE.

    <insert forehead smacking smiley here>

    <_<

I did the exact same thing yesterday. The sad part was I had noticed several shooters before me stopping to the left of a port and firing. I thought they were trying to take the far right plate of an array of six. Apparently, there was a paper target over there :surprise: ...

  10. I had a Heavy Ice MW on my G24 and like already mentioned above had to remove some material from the front edge of the grip to get it on. The replaceable inserts are a nice touch too...

  11. I love mine. I bought it used off of GB about three years ago. I was a little aprhensive about how the grip reduction would feel but it fits my hand perfectly. Shot a few 3Gun matches with it but these days it has become my goto ccw/house gun. It's really accurate and there's a comforting feeling when you have 13+1 rds of .45.

The only things I changed was install a 3.5# Ghost Rocket, T.H.E. mag release, and Aro-Tek slide release and picked up a couple more mags.

  12. Joined the forum a while ago but figured I might as well start posting...

The match was great. Thanks to the organizers and folks that helped out. Congrats to the winners. Randal, I love the 'chalice'.

I just wanted to let the studs from 2nd squad that i will post those videos that we took...Sorry about the battery dying. But the videos are pretty good. I wanted to let Brian know ahead of time that it was Mark that was your narrator...Great time fellas, I look forward to shooting with you guys again. Tony P

    Tony,

I'm looking forward to seeing the videos. I forgot to give you my email address before leaving the range. It's probably better for me that the battery died when it did. My pre-lunch stages were a lot better than post-lunch.

    Dave
