  1. I almost ordered one from Matt but after he sent me some pictures of his build. I found out that his logo is only on one side of the gun, but i heard a lot of positive feedback about him. NIce guns!!!!!!

My open gun from Matt should be here in October. Yee-Haa!!

  2. I do not have anything against hyprids in 38sc anymore but I am thinking of going 9 major now. Everything I read here says you will have a hard time making major or at least very limiting on loads, and it appears a lot of people are against them for 9major. Matt uses the same hybrid barrel for 9major. Matt shoots only 38sc, personaly, so he is going to find some loads from his customers that run his 9major guns.

  3. After years of resisting, I am finally moving to the Dark Side. I have done a lot of reading, e-mailed a few members and shot a few guns. I am going to throw out my options and see what you all think. This will be full size gun in 38SC.

My first choice was Millennium Custom, but with all the restructuring going on down there I did not want to get involved.

1st Choice- Dan Bedell=Cannot go wrong here in my book. Good, basic, solid, proven gun. I have no problem with his stuff, and great to talk to.

2nd Choice-Matt Mclearn=I like everything about his guns, outstanding craftsman but I just cannot get over the hybrid 3-4 hole barrels he likes to use; at least not yet.

I guess I kind of answered my own question.

I am of the “Buy it and shoot it till the wheels fall off” camp, not a “tinkerer” so besides working up a load and minor ergonomics, I do not want to mess with it. (so I say)

    Thanks,

    Michael

  4. i suppose the simple answer is that if it works, load them that way. Wilson should be the experts on that matter since they know the dimensions of how they cut their chambers.

differences in profile might be an issue depending on at what length the bullet engages the riflings. most round nose bullets ought to work at the length you mention, but your caution is also well founded since you don't want malfunctions due to what might appear to be slight differences due to bullet profile design.

i've used some 45 230 montana gold bullets set at between 1.250-1.254. i've had no malfunctions at that length in a variety of barrels, mostly Kart and Ed Brown. But as i mentioned before, if it works, then there's probably no reason to worry unless you have a particular issue in mind, such as engaging the riflings or pressure.

    Thanks Superdude.

  5. I normaly load Winchester .230 FMJ to 1.255 OAL. Had to switch to Montana Gold .230 FMJ. Do I keep the same OAL? Wilson Combat (my gun maker) recomended this length and it seems to work ok. MG profile seems a little different.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  6. Has anyone used the Montana Gold .45 200gr JFP? I need to know what the overal length should be.

Montana Gold said it is similar to Sierra Tournament Master and Sierra recomended the OAL to be 1.155 which seems short to me.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  7. I have been researching and thinking about going to open for some time now. I really like Brazos and the Bedell guns. There is one thing I cannot understand. Why does Brazos open 5" chrome custom cost $5300 and Bedell sells the same thing for $3000? Is there something I am missing? I would have to say that both guns will "drive tacks" and not "puke" on you during a match, so what gives.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  8. I use a 200gr LSWC over Vit N320 and really like it. Now I want to get away from lead exposure completely. Recomendations please. Poly coated black bullets, plated, jacketed or what.

I really like the present combo so 230's need not apply.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  9. I am going to have a Limited gun built sometime this year. Have not shot a 6" but after talking to Benny Hill I am very interested in a 6". I have always looked at what the top shooters use to find out what works. I do not believe there are that many top shots using a 6" gun. Suggestions and recomendations please.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  10. Has anyone got the scoop on Kevin Toothman and the guns he builds out of the United States Shooting Acadamy in Tulsa. I would like to know who out there has one of his guns and how they like it. The 6" limited he built for Seeklander looks very nice.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  11. This may sound like a stupid question but how many of you who work with Steve Andersons dryfire book, actually keep track of, and log the par times each session?

I find myself just doing the drills, starting out slow and picking up speed.

    Thanks,

    Michael
