  1. All result with Pro Reach have been very erratic. Huge velocity variance, even when every single charge is weighed with scale. My Dillon powder measure gives pretty unconsistent weighs, but it does not seem to affect velocity variance a bit <_<

I am gonna use end of the can to load some practice ammo and then forget Pro Reach.

True Blue for shorty and 7625 & 4756 for 5.4" from now on.

  2. I called Virgil Tripp today, need to say he has some attitude I love :)

I told him what is happening and he then told me to send old sight in and he would send me replacement. Because I am shooting matches all the time (next on saturday, state match in 3 weeks) I asked if he could send me a new one and I would then send the old one back to him. I was giving my CC details to make him feel comfortable when he said: "This is no money thing. We will send you another one today." :surprise::bow:

  3. I tried them in my 9mm open gun that shoots under an inch at 25 yards, with Zero, 125 grain, jhps, and with the CMJs it grouped about 3".

    Same here with 115gr and 124gr CMJ´s, both around 2.5" @25 :(

MG JHP´s shoot little better than CMJ´s but Zero JHP´s go into one ragged hole all the time from KKM 5.4".

My gun feeds all of those without any issues, but Zero´s are hard to find and I am shooting MG these days.

  4. Go with KKM. Much better quality and better availability compared to Schuemann. I have one KKM in my Limited 6" and I am just fitting KKM to my Open, original Schuemann barrel was shot out after 18k, groups 1 foot @25 yd :(

  5. Blade is moving in sight frame, both up-down and lef-right. I can be stupid sometimes, but not that much I would blame the sight because screws got loose :)

As new it was rock solid, absolutely no play at all. There are not very many adjustable sights I could say the same.

Because of that + light weight + perfect notch cut dimensions I just love the Tripp sight. Hopefully they will replace it fast or I have to use my spare Dawson rear sight...

  6. I have been using 9x19 shellplate for both 9x19 and .38 SC Starline brass and never had any problems.

Case head diameter difference between those is only about .001", groove diameter difference is little bigger and .38 SC feels little more "loose" in shellplate but like said never had any problems.

.223 head is about .01" smaller than 9x19 and .38 SC and groove diameter is little smaller than .38 SC - that may be the problem with .223 shellplate ?

  7. My .45 41.8 oz in SS Nationals chrono stage. Wife´s 9x19 42.6 oz.

STI frames, .45 has Caspian slide without lightening cuts, wife´s slide is "heavy" 3-top but 9x19 barrel is heavier.

Just finished building STI 2011 Limited 6" and it turned out 35 oz :D

  8. Lots of talk... But, have anyone checked how the gun is timed/barrel fitted ? If it is even near "allright" it is gonna be awesome for $600 gun

MIM hammer, disconnector and sear... ouch :( If you wanna make good trigger, throw all MIM parts into a garbage bin first.

  9. @Hannu

I still think the Zeiss varipoint is better quality glass and much more forgiving in head position compared to the Swarovski.

I also think the dot is better then the more ''orange'' from the Swarovski.

but the LD1 reticle should have been in the Zeiss

Patrick, unfortunately I can not agree while having both Varipoint and Z6i... I would have sold Zeiss when I bought Z6i 2006, but nobody wanted to pay anything for it after Z6i came to the market :( So I still have both :)

Difference in low magnification FOV size and shape is just huge + Swaro has little more magnification, at least I like very much to use 6x instead of 4x for long ranges (100+ meters for me).

I like Z6i dot more, I just seem to find "bright orange" faster than "dark red" and Z6i dot is transparent when not turned on - makes it easy to shoot small targets/groups if needed.

We measured optical quality few years ago (bunch of 1-4x and 1-6x scopes) and found very little differences between Z6i and Varipoint - both got the same points about optical quality.

Of course, things change and scopes can change over years.

However I do not know about head position thing, I have never had issues and/or understood that. Of course, unless mount height is way too tall or something else strange.

Zeiss should definitely develop Z6i killer... I can not understand, why they have not done it yet, or at least tried like S&B :(

  10. About travelling to the match... And trying to avoid this kind of 6 year court trial: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-ap-il-gunpermits,0,3451638.story

Because SS Nationals is in IL, I need to ask: what is the 100% legal way to transport guns to the match from other state ? Inside car trunk, unloaded in range bag or is there something else needed ? If stopped by LE officer, am I required to tell by the law that I have guns in the car ?

I have Colorado CCW, but seems it is just the same if I have it or not when in IL...

Hope there is somebody who can answer this, I know there are other people wondering about the same thing :)

  11. I used to shoot STI Matchmaster 9mm Major w/ T2 comp. I tested 14 different powders with MM, I would stick with Autocomp. Maybe the new Alliant Pro Reach could be even better, but I have not tested it yet.

Starline brass, Winchester SR primer, Autocomp 7.2 grains, MG 124gr CMJ loaded to 1.17" gave 170 PF.
