For my P16, I usually load 20 in a mag (easier to seat during mag changes), but I'll put 21 in my 1st mag, plus a Barney bullet to start a stage. 21 is a tight fit and it will feed just fine, but you have to really SLAM the mags in in order to get them to properly seat. Drop one out and they seat easily.

I've never had any problem with a mag not dropping free, even when fully stuffed.

  2. If you are looking for the largest number of major matches yearly, a quick check of the results section of USPSA will point to Area 6. Best gun laws within that area are either Georgia or Florida. If long gun is important, it is hard to beat AZ althought we care coming right along in our area. Factor in the no income tax in Florida and you can afford several plane rides to shoot the long gun matches in the west.

I love Georgia, plenty of matches, plenty of good weather, some really top notch shooters. Last weekend Max Michel shows up at a local match and you never know when Sevigny will be at one, just to mention a couple.....

I was wondering when some Georgia folks would speak up!!

As far as I'm concerned, the best place to live is right where I live now! I'm less than 5 miles from South River Gun Club (my home club since the mid 70's --- long before I found out about IPSC), and within a 1 hour drive of 4 NICE outdoor ranges/clubs. Factor in the indoor matches and I could shoot at least 4 matches a week if I didn't have to work for a living!!

  3. I have a bushnell Halo sight and I'm having trouble picking up the retetical in bright/sunny day light on a light/white target. Even with new batteries it doesn't seem to matter. Overcast/dark target no problems. Would the Eo tech 512 work better in these conditions? Any coments welcome, Pro or Con.

I have no trouble seeing my Eotech in the bright Arizona sun. I do turn it up a ways though.

My EOTech 512 works just fine in BRIGHT conditions. You just have to crank it a bit higher than normal. I hadn't thought about the polarized glasses issue mentioned above. That could be the issue.

  4. S&B does not make any corrosive ammo that I am aware of. I've used plenty of thier .308 stuff in my FAL's with no problems (other than the cost!).

If you do use corrosive ammo (I use it all the time in some of my C&R guns), swab the barrel with either 1) Windex, or 2) a 60/40 solution of water and ammonia. Both contain ammonia, which will neutralize the corrosive compounds. Just swab good with a patch or 2 soaked in the ammonia solution/windex (wipe your bolt, chamber, etc. also) and let it sit for a few minutes, then clean and oil as usual. If you do this every time, you can use corrosive ammo all you want with no ill effects. Most cleaners will remove the vast majority of the corrosive materials, but only ammonia will totally neutralize them.

  5. I recently purchased a new Stag AR for 3-gun matches. Shot my first match with it today and I was quite pleased with it's overall performance, BUT.....It currently has a A2-type flashhider (threaded barrel) and the dot on my EOTech was bouncing a lot more than I want. I am looking for suggestions on a compensator for it. Any ideas about which will eliminate or lessen muzzle bounce most effectively? Any suggestions/advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

  6. Most of the above advice sounds good/correct.

If you plan on using a Bomar or similar rear sight (or if you plan on doing much machining work at all on the slide) go ahead and buy a new slide from Caspian that already has all of the work done --- It'll save you $$$ in the long run.

Also, you said you have small hands???? You might want to try eliminating the grip panels entirely. Get a set of the "grip fillers" from Brownell's and then wrap the entire grip in skateboard tape (like on the pics of "Frankenpara" above). You end up with a grip that is feel-wise very similar to a single stack 1911.

As far as internals go, get a Schuemann ultimatch bull barrel for it and replace the hammer/sear/etc with Extreme Engineering parts. And can the cheesy trigger that para installs!!!!!!

Be careful though, or you can end up going WAY further with it than you intended (Like I did on my P16 --- the only part left on the gun from Para is the frame, and that's been modified!! But I'll put it up against any STI any time, any place!!!)

    Dave Re????????????

Holy S--t, I haven't even heard your name in YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wondered where you had disappeared to!!!! (Some of us "old crew" types are still shooting at South River Gun Club!!!).

How've ya been dude??? Still shooting that Viper that Rusty built for Ya????

Actually, I think that you and Spanky are the ones who convinced me to have Rusty build my Para (which has absolutely nothing from Para left on it except the frame -- and Rusty modified that!!!). I've been shooting that gun in matches at least several times a month since he built it in 1996, and it has NEVER jammed or hiccupped in any way, shape, or form!!!!! (Damn, I hope I didn't just jinx myself!!!!) Absolutely the most reliable weapon I have ever encountered. The gun is still more accurate than I am capable of shooting, and I still get questioned about it (who built it) at every match 'cause it looks as good as it shoots!!!

Rusty is a little slow to finish his guns, but that is because he is an extreme perfectionist. The finished product is WELL worth the wait and the cost. I would put his work up against ANY other gunsmith in the nation, with absolutely no hesitation. He does true top-of-the-line work!!!

  8. Tried the Jentra--no thanks. I went with the Ghost Rocket connector with built in overtravel stop. It works well and there are no screws to back out.

I traveled the same exact road. Gave away the Jentra to someone on GlockTalk.

  9. I know at the last Area 6 match, usually the "prize table" is strictly for RO's, staff, and set-up help. Competitors get plaques and $$$.

I've only been to one Nationals, but there they had the "traditional" prize table where everyone got at least one trip to the table. It was definitely worth sticking around for!!!!

I guess it varies from match-to-match, but I personally prefer that the "prize table" stuff go to the RO's and staff. They work their asses off so that the rest of us can just shoot and enjoy it all. I think they deserve the extra "goodies".

    Just my $.02 worth!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. New here, but I guess I gotta start posting somewhere!!!!

I don't do more than 2 or 3 draws when I unbag my gun. But I generally do try to do some stretching exercises focused on back, legs, and shoulders.

If the match is at my home club, I'll sometimes go to an unused pit and run a magazine or 2 through my gun before I sign up. Mostly just focus on sight tracking and getting a feel for things.

I guess it hasn't helped too much though, because as a general rule if I'm going to blow a stage it will be the first one :(<_<
