  1. Gentleman, I’m 15 and I’m still learning. In regard to my earlier post about Todd running a .89 on double trouble the statement that I saw the timer is a lie. Now it is true that I heard about the time, but I did not see it. I love shooting and this sport. I have dreams about shooting. I think about how to improve in any spare time I have. I love everything that shooting involves. Please let it be known that this is not an excuse, but I wanted to let you know where my head was at the time. I love to read some of the incredible stories that you guys write and I was simply looking for a story of my own. I just need to be more patient. I apologize for my lie, I know that I have been taught better and I am completely ashamed of myself. My only hope is that you do not think badly of me for what I have done. I hope that in some way admitting the wrong that I have done on this public forum that I can regain some credibility. Again I am very sorry.

  2. Eventually the U.S. gets tired of the French and decides that we will make them american fries and american toast etc. One day in battle a French officer sees an American on a hill waving a white flag. The officer tells some of his men to go get that american. Three of four French troops go up the hill just as the american goes down the other side. After about a half an hour the men don't come back and the american is back up on the hill waving the flag again. This time the officer sends up 20 men saying get that american! I know what that flag means and I want that man! After and hour the men don't come back and the american is once again back up on the hill waving the flag. This time the French officer sends up every single one of his men to get the american. Again, the american disappears behind the hill and the men do not come back. after two hours of waiting the officer sees one French man coming over the hill all covered in blood and beaten up. The officer asks what happened and the man says, "Don't send any more men! It's a trap! There's two of them!"

    :D:P:)

Bout sums them up huh? ;)

Try as I might the fastest draw to first shot on Double Trouble was a 1.16, twice. There were a couple of other stages where I was trying to push it too much and had some misses.

ArGGG!!! Too much caffeine I think, that and the cold. On one of the stages, you might actually make out the snow flakes falling.

Weird, how when it all comes together, you make your hits, and you're smooth how slow it seems, and then you look at the timer display.

"Wow! I shot it that fast. Cool!"

Smokin' on that tree. I know exactly what you mean about the super fast runs seeming slow. Had one match at Top Gun where i felt like i was going so slow and i got 2nd. would have had first but kepa was next to unbeatable.

  4. The last Thursday of the month is the Tactical match which is IPSC style but no holster draws, all from table. Too worried about some of the people AD-ing into the concrete floor.

The first Thursday of the month is the Practice macth which is either IPSC or bowling pins. Second Thursday of the month is Bowling Pin match. Nothing on third thursday. Must be a member to compete in matches. Great payout too. !st in tactical is up to like 70$ sometimes. We might just have to use those bullets too, Thanks for telling me! I would go over to the other place but I hate EYE DEE PEE AYE style stuff. Plus i'm only 15 so it's up to David what matches we shoot. Thanks anyway though I'll tell him about the other match and the bullets and primers. Here is a link if you are interested in Top Guns matches and there is other info that you might find useful.

  5. Don't have a pic of ours but it is an L shaped bench with a comp at the corner and a press with unused tumbler on the left. The rest is covered with trash save for the spot the cat lays on while we are downstairs. (We is stepdad and myself.)

  6. Leave sandbaggers in your dust.

    :)

Exactly. A sandbagger, by definition, is determined to be a loser. He has given up the hope of improving himself and takes a perverted satisfaction in maintaining his mediocrity. Let 'em.

    +100 to that!

By the same token, I find it embarassing that we've set up this bizzarro-world system where the best performers aren't being rewarded. Hell, even communist-bloc nations gave the best athlete the medal. So, we reward overall finish as well.

I love this sport......but it IS really small in the grand scheme of "sporting events". If we had enough members, we'd have enough GM's to run a "100 Best Guns Nationals" every year and have enough support to get that televised event......or would we? Is the classification system based on the normal curve and are we always cursed with only the top 5% of shooters making GM status and perhaps only 10 really shining? Do enough of us exist to endorse a top ten shootoff?

I think the current system is the lesser of evils. Until we get bigger, and more popular, we need to endorse the sport to the casual shooter and reward participation. People will then watch and fund the rewards that the GM's deserve....but currently if you only had GM's at major matches....you couldn't afford to pay the price of holster wear, let alone gas or ammo.....of the amazing effort it takes to reach that level.

As shooters in a particular culture, I think we sometimes lose perspective. To the general public, I'd wager more people are aware of Olympic Badminton than USPSA. Did football and baseball start out with tremendous payoffs? Of course not, most just played for the love of the game and people loved those games because you could go and play them in your backyard with your friends on any given Sunday...anywhere....and they loved to watch people excel at something they could relate to. You can't do that with USPSA, because there isn't a club in everyone's backyard (let alone one that the general public is aware of), there are misconceptions about guns, the sport carries more responsibility than hitting a baseball ......and.....just shooting a paper target at the range is like just throwing a football across an empty field......it's not playing the game. It's just not the same and means nothing to the "sporting community" or general public.

More than anything, USPSA needs to be public/junior friendly and in this time period...be challenging, safe and fun. If that means that Joe Shmoe who "sandbags" gets a prize and goes back to the mill and gets people interested......well God bless him. The alternative is that we all up the pony up an extra $ and fund.....a commercial....or local public charity/youth/disabled shoots......or offer more free clinics.....or....

So......until the public pays the shoots......the D, C, B and A class shooters will continue to fund it. Don't dis them too hard. How many actually make more money in prizes at the D/C/B class level to pay their own gas, ammo and travel as well?

Nobody will know of this sport worldwide until the idiots that think guns kill people all go away. Until then it is only going to be those of us that realize you could kill someone just as easily with a pencil as with a gun and it is the person that does the killing, not the weapon.

I think the world could use more hugs, especially if HOOTERS is your major match sponsor and they supply a Stage Host at each stage.

NOW YOUR TALKING! I like that idea!

    ------

Sorry to point out the following but the logic seems somewhat flawed. Damn do I wish we could just go back to heads up overall competitions.

I would have no problems with the distribution of prizes into the top 3 or 5 of the classes - IF the classification system was VALID and the people that win the classes ACTUALLY SHOULD BE IN THEM.

So let me get this right:

    1. We seem to have determined that you can't stop sandbagging.

    2. Some here want to reward based on class performance.

    HUH?

I think the prize system should be done like the 2006 Fall Classic. Trophies awarded to the top 1 and 2 and maybe 3. Then after that send people up in order of finish in each division. You can't sandbag between divisions. :)

I think your highest classification should count for all divisions except Revolver.

Those round thingies ain't normal.

    +100000000000000000

What is a prize table? Is that like a really nice table to put your stuff on?

<_< Its a place that you find yourself after years of practice, & thousands of $$$ ? mayby tens of thousands of $$ in, 'investing'. And vacations missed, yards not mowed, kids not played with & kisses not kissed, & love not made. After all that you stand at a (Prize Table)and pick something you could have eazyily purchased by not eating out for one meal.

 And It will be the most wonderfull thing you have, becuase you can say ... :D !I won this! :D

Just make shurr you write a thank you note ...or life will Getchya ;)

So, If a sandbager gets a prize that should not have ben, they Steal much more than match placment.

    I agree with this completely.

One idea is to get rid of the multiple classifications (I'm B-Open, C-Limited, whatever) and go to a single classification. The net effect of this would be to classify a shooter according to his *skill* (like, actually aiming and moving and executing a stage strategy) rather than according to the kind of gun he chooses to put in his hand. There are a variety of potential advantages (like, as soon as you are classified, you're classified in all divisions). I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts.

Another idea is to make it so that a shooter *must* shoot a number of valid classifiers per year in order to keep their classification current. For example, if you are a B-class shooter now, you can't just sit on that B-card for years and never have your classification catch up with your A-class skills. You would have to shoot valid classifiers to keep your card, and if you don't, your classification would go "stale" and you would be listed as "unclassified" until you have current classifier scores. Again, there are pros and cons - this might be a problem for people who, for whatever reason, are not able to shoot enough classifiers (like, active-duty military on overseas deployments or whatever). I think we can come up with exceptions to deal with those. But it would *directly* resolve the issue of the guy who comes in from [wherever] with a 3-year-old C-card that doesn't reflect his A-class skills. Again, would welcome people's thoughts on this.

I like both of these ideas. Just keep revolver on its own and don't include it with everything else. Completely different as far as this sport goes.

  7. Ya we do reload but 1 normal steel match is about 500 rounds and one box of 500 .45 bullets is like $30.xx. Also with primers going up it costs too much. Not to mention we always shoot on thursdays at Top Gun. That is the main reason I think.

I don't know if i could shoot anything but a .45 for competition. My buddy let me shoot his 9mm CZ and I had problems with the recoil ( lack therof) that girly little 9mm just isn't enough bullet for me. :D Joking, of course.

  8. I wonder how the S.C.O.U.T. model from viotac.com would be if mounted under the light rail of a pistol? I think it would show a different 1st person perspective of a match. The only problems would be doing mag changes (see where you are pointing the gun and not at the shooting array) and actually drawing the weapon (cord might get in the way, but hell, that's what duct tape is for, right?).

    Any comments on that idea.

The only problem I could see would be recoil.

This is a video from tonights practice.

I mounted the camera on the bill of my cap. the problem is that the camera points downward, so I have to wear my hat higher in the front, the last string of shooting on the video was actually the first one, so once I got the adjustment right, it looks fairly good.

I did notice that the camcorder skipped when I was running

    CLICK ME about 4mb

Video looks pretty good to me. What type of backstop is that in the range? Never seen that type.

Best video I've seen yet! These are all awesome. I wish I could get one. Keep'em comin!

I get the pleasure of doing up to four reloads in one COF. :D I do love L10 though.

  9. My beautiful bride of 14 years with my sorry-butt in the redwoods here

    14 years??? WTF?

Did you guys get married when you were both 11?

Seriously, y'all have some fine wimmen!

Here's a picture of "the little woman" sitting on my Harley.

She rides with me, shoots with me, and let me turn a bedroom in our new house into my gunroom!

    Life is good! :D

Sweet! She's probably telling her friends: "Yeah, I let him 'talk me into' a gunroom and he agreed to reload all of my match ammo, what a schmuck!"

Oh, it's better than that! When "we" first got into shooting I had a custom gun built. When we went to pick it up the Gunsmith's wife let her know that I was to buy all the stuff, load the ammo, clean the guns, pack the range bag, etc. All she should do is get in the car, ride to the range and shoot! And believe me she has not wavered from that for 4 years!

I agree with chet and I don't have a picture of my baby but her name is Nineteen Eleven.

No, seriously, I have no wife i'm only 15. God please bless me with a great wife like some of these. B)

  10. This is a classifier that I just shot on the last sunday of Feb. and it's the one that will determine whether my intial classification is D or C. I am at 3 classifiers in right now and have an average of 41%. :o The bad thing is that, well, ummmm, I think I screwed it up badly. Like 8.32 secs or something like that and I forget how many points. Classifiers always get to me. Looks like I'm gonna have to work my way up to C class. All classifier match March 25 at Arnold maybe my stepdad will let me go to that to see if I can up the percentage to its rightful level.

  11. I don't know these by the numbers so.... what does this one look like? I know i've shot one of the steely speeds before. Wasn't a member when I shot it but I was using a Sig p220 and shot it horribly in 27.xx secs. I'm not that horrible I was just having a bad day. <_<

  12. I would just check with the sheriff. If he says it's ok then I would go ahead and do it. I live in the country and we do live fire off our back porch, or the field, or wherever. The neighbors say hi with a little live fire of their own. :D Anyway as long as you ask I would think it would be just fine.

  13. How can I make my left grip more consistent. I have to regrip my left hand shot after shot. You can see my grip style on my avatar.

As the shot break, my right hand follows the recoil of the gun but my left hand want to stay put where it was just before the shot breaks. It's somewhat slipping off my right hand. If I grip my left too hard, the gun shakes.

I got a lot from this video.

    Hope it helps!

I didn't even have a problem and I learned some things from this video.
  14. I shoot one out of 4 stages decently on a good day, but there is always something that could have gone better no matter what. Even on stage wins across all divisions with a Limited gun I picked the run apart and tried to find where the wasted time, motion, or points were. There have only been a couple stages where I said to myself 'damn, that was good'. I enjoy the pursuit of progress almost as much as running at my capability, and the pursuit of progress is more likely to lead to an increase in performance. As long as I increase my ability by defining a weakness in my ability to work on everything is fine, even if it goes really poorly. Don't get me wrong, I will get pretty bent, I will probably piss and moan for a bit too if things go badly but by the time I get to the next stage it is over almost every time.

Mindset when you get to the LAMR is far more important than most can realize. If you step to the line with a plan, a plan that you KNOW is solid, knowing that you CAN shoot the plan and the plan WILL work things will go SO much better than 'normal' that you can't believe it. I really believe that is the real key to shooting at your ability, at least it is for me right now. Even if your plan is glued together with dookie and falling apart at the seams you HAVE to put every confidence in it when you load, that is all you have at that point. KNOW it will work and KNOW it is solid, sell it to yourself. At that point it can't get worse, you need something and anything really to run. Run it as is, take what it gives. It is far better than trying to decide what to do as you are loading. Even if you feel like you are selling eskimo's ice it is better than stepping to the line unsure of what is going to happen. Decide, and then shoot it.

BTW, my match reloads duplicate my dry fire, some go well and others don't. It is what it is, even if you launch a mag over the berm you can't do anything but recover and keep going. By the time things to go shit it is far too late to do anything about it. I see a lot of shooters have something go wrong and it blows the ENTIRE stage for them where if they had stayed in the game it wouldn't have hurt nearly so bad. Even in dry fire RECOVER from whatever happens and finish the drill. Those people quickly fall from contention, even if it is just C or D class bragging rights. We shoot what we practice.

Very helpful. A lot of stages if i go to slidelock or some other unplanned event happens, my brain frys and my plan goes with it. I'll try to sell my plan to myself next time.
