  1. I shot for the first time since Bob's "hoot 'n shoot" last Saturday. I shot well and took Bob's advice to heart on planting the cheek to the stock and keeping it there, I got hits nearly every time I used the technique and when I didn't I went back to the old "hit and miss" routine. Just that one Item made the long drive to Missouri worthwhile. Now lets talk about the material rewards of the Vanzant shoot and express my appreciation to all that contributed them. The trophy now graces the fireplace mantle, a nice looking addition, the two wood clay medallions are very cool, they are replicas clays engraved with some nice words. I gave one to my parents to be displayed with other family nick-nacs and pictures. The Winchester Bowie knife is very cool and BIG! It might be legal to carry it but it would intimidate my fellow citizens so it resides on my desk, I am looking at it now. The orange hunting cap is in my gear bag as my bkup shooting cap. The case of "mystery ammo", I wasn't too sure what I was getting with that. The case had been resealed and I was very pleasantly surprised to find it filled up with Remington Gun Clubs which I had never shot before. As a matter of fact I have never shot anything but Walmarts finest which in the Benelli produces satisfactory patterns, I shot a box of the Gun Clubs on Saturday and I was impressed with the performance, the patterns were spectacular. I had one clay, a rabbit take a nice long hop directly in front about 25 feet out using a #3 choke and the clay just disappeared when I hit. I have pulverized clays to dust but I have never seen one blow with no discernible debris. Kinda scary! Bob and others on this blog have been advising shooters to use quality ammo and reloads and now I see the light. More hits! Whee-hagh! My thanks to all!
  2. First off, I'm a huge Mossberg & Maverick fan. 97% of my shotguns are Mossberg or Maverick pumps. more: chung cu the sun me tri Models include 88, 500, 500A, 510, 505, 835, 590, & 590A1. I would trust my life with any of the above guns. Recently I learned of what "some" would call a design flaw in the Mossberg pattern pump shotgun. It is when dropped on it's side, the tabs holding the shell elevator may pop out...and if you don't notice it and rack the pump, it will cause the gun to hopelessly jam. more: chung cu golden park tower Has anyone else experienced this? My cousin who likes to tinker with things thought he may try make a modification to the elevator to prevent this, BUT because he doesn't want some to sue him(or me) if they try it and there is a problem..he's advised me not to mention the details of his intended modification. Mossberg admits there was an issue with some guns back in 1998, but they claim it was fixed. more: gia chung cu 17 pham hung
  3. I went trap shooting with the old man today, and we met a guy that is selling some of his late father's guns, who lived in Puerto Rico. He had two Browning over unders that he said were made in Belgium. They are Citori Lightning Broadways (as he called them), 30 inch barrels. One was blued and one was nickel. I know enough about these guns to know they are worth quite a bit. He wants $2500 for the pair. Both have been used in competitions, but seemed solid. The guy said that the nickel one had recently been fitted, and that makes sense since its action was much tighter than the blued one. The nickel one had minor black corrosion type stuff on the nickel portion, nothing major. The blued one was much looser, loose to the point that there is a very small wobble when the action is open. I saw the blued one in action by this guy, and it is obviously very functional. The blueing is near perfect. We shot them both, and they certainly function. My dad is interested in buying these because he and I are trying to get back into shooting clays. more: eco dream, chung cư mỹ đình plaza I tried to find some info on these on the web, but am coming up somewhat short. Can anyone offer more information? Is this too good of a deal to pass up? The guy also said that Browning will refinish these for free since they were made in Belgium. Wondered if anyone else had heard anything about this. more: eco dream nguyễn xiển Thanks.
  4. Two of us went to the range yesterday with four 12ga shotguns (1 semi-auto, two pumps, 1 double barrel). All had 18 1/2" barrels with cylinder bore and were unscientifically tested with multiple brands of 00 & #4 buckshot shells. Targets were two steel 12x20 targets, one at 12y and one at 25y. All shells were 2 3/4". Only buckshot pellets that hit the 12" x 20" targets were counted. Results are as stated, exact measurements not always made due to not wanting to delay other shooters at the range: more: eco dream PMC 00B, 9 pellets, 1330 fps, "One Shot High Velocity Buckshot", #HV12BK 00: This is a very nice looking 9 pellet full power 00B load that functioned perfectly in all 4 guns and was of old style interior construction with no spread-control wads. Spread varied between guns but usually gave 7-8 hits per shot at 12y and 5-6 hits at 25y. Winchester Super-X #4 Buck and S&B #4 Buck, 27 pellets, HV full power claimed on boxes. Both loads covered almost the entire target at both 12y & 25y. All 27 pellets hit the target at 12y, 17-18 pellets hit the target at 25y. (NOTE: S&B Buck recoils less so I doubt they are really full power. The only malfunctions of the entire test were the S&B shells that malfunctioned in the Remington semi-auto several times by failing to eject all the way, another sign they are under powered.) more: pcc1 thanh xuân Federal Premium Law Enforcement with Flightcontrol wads, 00B, 9 pellets, 1145 fps velocity = not HV. These loads are amazing! At 12y all 9 pellets impacted in one tight 4" group. At 25y all 9 pellets impacted in a tight 6" group. Bottom line: The best indoor close range loads were Winchester Super-X #4 buck followed by PMC 00B. Both spread well at close (indoor) ranges and seem to be HV as claimed. The #4B did spread much more than the 00B at 12y and is less likely to penetrate exterior walls making it the most effective and safest fast action indoor load in my opinion. The best long range outdoor load was the Federal 00B with Flightcontrol. I didn't test it past 25y but 6" patterns at 25y strongly suggest it would be an effective man-stopper out to 50y or more. None of the other loads appeared to be effective man-stoppers past 25y-30y, if that, due to insufficient percentage of pellets hitting the target. I would not use S&B for self-defense. They are under powered and not sealed. more: chung cư eco dream If I can ever find the shooting range unoccupied I'll take the time to more accurately measure patterns. But beware that even though all 4 guns were cylinder bore (no choke) the patterns varied from gun to gun so you really need to pattern test your own gun to know for sure what it will do with your preferred loads.
  5. I was interested to see what kind of stuff people owned here. I've always loved short barreled shotguns, especially ones made from double or single barrels with stocks nicely cut and sanded to pistol grips. There's a guy with a great little side by side madmax style on youtube and has videos of himself shooting slugs and all kinds. I'll see if I can't find it. more: pcc1 thanh xuân I got an 870 with a birds head grip by raptor and a 12" barrel. I'll get a picture of it when I can get the camera. I love it. It's bloody deafening when using the 3" magnum rounds though I gotta say. Anyone to the side or even back a bit is deaf. Surprisingly the recoil is very very managable. I've not done anything idiotic like shoot it one handed. But held properly, right hand firmly gripping the pistol grip and left holding the pump and bracing it forward slightly, it's very manageable. I haven't shot it since I splurged and bought a huge bag of nice shooting ear plugs. more: chung cư eco dream If you google witness protection 870, it's practically identical to mine. Though mine has a sling on it and no duct tape or nasty bubba barrel! The 12" barrel came stock. Thinking of a 4 or 5 shot side saddle too. Really got to get around to getting an after market magazine spring and low draw aluminum follower. I see em on ebay but keep forgetting when I got the spare cash. Next week maybe. Agreeably they're not the most practical but there's nothing stopping me from changing the barrel and stock if I wanted. I could change the magazine to an extended one if I liked. But 5 + 1 is alright. tags: chung cư pcc1 thanh xuân
  6. Hey guys, my wife has shown some interest in duck hunting with me and I'm looking for some suggestions on a 20 gauge semi automatic for her. We shot some clays today and she did alright for it being her first time but I could tell she was really having trouble with the length of the guns even with all the shims took out to make it as short as possible for her. I let her shoot my Sweet 16 and even though the size of the gun fit her she was really timid about it from the kick so I'm definitely looking for a gas operated semi auto. If possible I'd like try to stay under $600 in case she doesn't like hunting so I'm not spending a bunch of money for a gun to collect dust in the gun cabinet. I was thinking about possibly a TriStar shotgun which had surprisingly good reviews for a company that I'd never heard of before coming across them on my local gun store's website. Please help me pick the gun that will get her addicted and coming back for more!
