Chuck Anderson
Wow, that's a lot of griping in a day or two. And most of it is unwarranted. Yes we just missed a window of time for Jim to put in for vacation. If your partner hadn't picked that particular week would it have mattered if the dates were announced a month later? As far as the mix of divisions, it was different several times over the last few years, and I know you've been shooting long enough to remember those matches if you tried. Racegun Nationals, Factory Gun Nationals, Stand alone Limited or Open matches, LPR, OPR, L/L10, all sorts of different combinations. The match can't be announced until the contract is signed. We tried that in 2006 and got burned by a club who used it to try and extort money from USPSA. As far as Vegas. We're in a down economy. Vegas is hurting. There are thousands of unfilled hotel rooms and empty seats in restaraunts driving prices down cheaper than I've ever seen them here. The plane fares are cheaper from everywhere in the country to get here than to just about everywhere else. Mike has asked clubs on the East coast to host Nationals before. There hasn't been an overwhelming response. Rockcastle is not ready for a USPSA Nationals yet. But would be cool when it is. There are a ton more reasons to go to Vegas. No where and no time is going to make everyone happy. Hopefully this will make enough people happy to fill the matches. I haven't had the opportunity to talk to Mike about it but my guess is next years dates will be released earlier.
Aircooled6racer
Hello: I think they should do what they do in some other sports. Have the nationals in one place for 2 years with all the dates set for those 2 years. That way people can make plans and contracts can be set. I think Vegas has alot going for it but I am sure other places could do the same. Summer may be a good time to hold nationals up north and the families could go since the kids are out of school. In the end not everyone will be pleased with the choices but if they know a year in advance they can make up there own minds. Still some will complain Thanks, Eric

boz1911
Having only shot the last two Nationals I can only compare Vegas and Tulsa. Hotels and weather greatly favor Vegas as do off hours entertainment. The range in Tulsa (when dry) is absolutely stunning without ten zillion ricochets going over your head or striking you. Move the Tulsa range to Vegas and I'd be a happy camper.

mda
But mostly I cant understand why when the Nationals are announced each year ....... the complaining begins. Why? Especially HERE! Why do the moderators allow complaining about SHOOTING to continue, here at Brians House? Shouldnt we be glad we still get to own guns, and shoot here in America? +100 Also they were correct about putting the farmers and thier familys out by having it in oct. If they want to go bad enough, they will find a way. I know a lot of people who would love to help put on an event like this and ranges that would love to have it but its not up to us is it. Then have them submit a request/plan to hold the Nationals. How do you think area matches happen? Some club decides to put on the match, submits the paper work and gets it approved. USPSA Nationals, IPSIC Nationals, SS Nationals no different. As far as Vegas. We're in a down economy. Vegas is hurting. TDean
Bottom line, the complaints are predictable, year after year. When the match is in Illinois for a couple years straight, the west-coasters complain. The fact that Vegas is so cost-effective right now (comparitively) is a huge bonus to the majority of those who actually plan on attending. XRe
The only thing I'll find to complain about is if I don't get in to the silly thing again this year... Heck, in October, the weather should be even nicer than September! I'd much rather be in Vegas than freakin' Tulsa, without a doubt.... Too bad USSA turns into such a pig sty when it rains

That may be, but there are an awful lot of annual events that are scheduled 2-5 years in advance. I have nothing but respect for the USPSA staff, and applaud what they do. But it really shouldn't be that hard to schedule the Nationals a couple of years in advance, particularly since it seems there's only a dozen or so locations really suitable for the event. guns_and_labs
I suppose this is naive, but I've never even thought about attending the Nationals. How do you "earn" your way in? Some kind of point system at Area matches? Can someone point me to a FAQ page to explain?
BritinUSA
Doing well at Area matches is one way, another is through your section co-ordinator. Each section gets allocated some slots based on activity, how those slots are awarded is up to the section to decide. The only other way is to wait for the wait list to be posted and add your name to it. It will come out later this year and then you sit back and wait to hear if you got in or not. Chris Keen
I'm about as excited as could be to go back to Vegas again. I didnt get to see all the attractions I had planned on last time, and didnt really know my way around either. Although I did get a chance to hang out with fellow shooters IMA45DV8, BOZ1911, Joeciclid, Alamo Shooter, Shred, Little Kahuna, BIG Kahuna, and Theo Carter (to name a few) on a few different occasions, and learned my way around town quite well. Thanks for your hospitality last year guys, and I cant wait to see you all there again this year!
Bill Filiaga
I think the staff does a fine job for all the Nationals I have attended. East Coast, West Coast, Alaska, Hawaii or anywhere in between. If I got a slot I am going......

Why do the moderators allow complaining about SHOOTING to continue, here at Brians House? Shouldnt we be glad we still get to own guns, and shoot here in America? I don't know, Chris. I think maybe it's become a tradition. Look, I wish they were announced sooner, too. I wish that the deals were worked sooner so that at the close of a Nationals the date and location could be announced for the following year. I wish that everyone who has to submit vacation requests by early-January knew the dates at that time so they could get their PTO request approved. But as that sweet, demure, fragile-looking flower of a Mother of mine is often heard saying, "Wish in one hand and sh!t in the other. See which one fills up first." I wish it were different but that hand is still empty.

My point was the Olypmics are held every 4 years and hopefully our Nationals will continue to be every year and I meant within the PAST 40 years. I only date back to 1940 so the original games were a bit before my time.
Zerwas
Come on guys 9 months out and people are complaining,? that is more than enough notice, I say good job. 9 months does seem like a long time. Problem is, it isn't soon enough as there are several other matches also being planned. When the nationals dates aren't locked in soon enough it causes problems with these other larger matches ie the Production Challenge. Situations like this can be avoided if the nationals dates are put out quickly enough. I'm just as tired of hearing about the complaining of the nationals dates as much as the next shooter, but it is someething that needs to be addressed. Totally trivial response: No, but I can think of a Winter Games site. Innsbruck Austria had the Games in 1964. Denver was selected to host them in 1976 but they bailed out, and the Games went back to Innsbruck, whose organizers had kept up the original 1964 facilities. Added: Ooo! Ooo! The summer games were in London in 1908 and again in 1948! Edited January 23, 2010 by wgnoyes

Come to think of it I haven't watched the last 3 or 4 either.

wileecoyote37
I've been to Las Vegas with my wife on business several times. Last year I worked the first half and shot the second havf so was in Vegas for 8 days. The first day my wife and I walked through the casino, sat down for dinner and she says to me "I'm tired of Las Vegas already". I agreed with her. It doesn't take very many trips to get very tired of Vegas.
