DWFAN Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) I need to go slower, drop fewer points, fewer procedurals and I'll do pretty good. I guess I shot a target when I should have been moving, and got off a chair before finishing another target. 2 penalties there. Was supposed to go 1-4-3 on two targets, and went 1-4-2.. that cost some points. Another penalty(FTN) I should have been able to reshoot because they were scoring everyone differently, and I chose the faster route so I wouldnt have to reload. It wasnt worth argueing for a re-shoot. Another lesson learned, double check your own points. I think I got a minus 5 or 7 when the guy didnt count a head shot. My weak hand shooting was better than expected. I didnt drop any weak hand points! Had atleast 10 shots fired WHO. I finished middle of the pack, and top quarter of the ESP division. Raw time = 122.49 Total = 159.99 Edited January 18, 2010 by DWFAN
Steve Koski Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Nice! You'll feel so much smoother at your second match.
Chris Christian Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 It does take a few matches to get the "new game" confusion out of your system. PEs, FTNs, and Non-Threats are score killers, but after some more match experience you'll get better at avoiding them. As for slowing down?... definitely if you are tossing 3s, Mikes, and whacking Non-threats. But, if you are shooting 1s quickly I don't know if it's worth slowing down to get 0s. Chris Christian
DWFAN Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 I didnt hit any non threats, and most of my actual points down were because I didnt shoot, or forgot to shoot. I shot quite a few -0's. I did drop some on a very long stage (distance). It might have been 30-35 yards. I'll need to practice that some more soon. I have good hopes for my next match!
Steve Koski Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I have "melted down" on my share of stages, and it usually involves not shooting a target at all. Koski
Chris Christian Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 DWFan, From reading your previous posts I get the gut feeling that you're gonna have a lot of fun at IDPA. Once the "new" wears off, your stage planning will miraculously evolve to the point where you account for every target before the buzzer and make certain that the appropriate ones get the right number of bullets. I too have gotten a bit too fast, and a bit ahead of myself, and forgotten to shoot a target (10 seconds in penalties... 2 Mikes and a FTN... really sucks!)... but I didn't do it more than once or twice before I figured out that the time to think is before the buzzer goes off. Welcome to IDPA! It's a pretty good match, and in my experience, a pretty good bunch of people. Chris Christian
DWFAN Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 Thanks guys. It was fun, and the guys were really nice. They did say how well I shot, and my score will greatly improve with fewer mistakes.
