Eagle40 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Need some help guys! I just acquired a used Kimber Stainless Target II in 9mm. I was thinking of putting a 40 cal. barrel in it so I can shoot major. I guess some of you guys are wondering why to use 40 cal barrel in 9mm slide. I just read somewhere that Kimber uses 40 cal breechface in their 9mm gun. Maybe some Kimber 9mm owners here had experienced with that already. So, I just want to get some ideas. What brand of barrel to use, other parts that need to be changed , etc. You're help is greatly appreciated!
Aircooled6racer Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Hello: I have a Kimber Eclipse that was a 10mm that I made into a 40 and a 9mm. The Eclipse is about 3 years old so I am not sure if Kimber is still using the same breachface as they did then. I would give them a call and see. Ask to speak to someone in the custom shop. Mine runs perfectly with only changing the barrels, bushings and mags. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric

I'm not sure if they're still using the same type of slide. I guess you're right, a quick call to Kimber custom shop will solve that problem. BTW, what brand of barrel did you use in your Eclipse? Thanks again....
Aircooled6racer Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hello: So what did you find out? Are the new slides still a 40 breachface? I found all my 9mm stuff and may shoot it this week. I was using it in 40 last. Thanks, Eric
chirpy Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I'm not sure if Kart makes a .40 barrel or not but it would be hard to choose between Kart and Bar-Sto. JMHO Richard

But, they cannot tell by just giving them the serial no. of the gun. Only the manufacturing date. Mine is still 40 breechface, coz' I measured it already! It was manufactued Jan. 2005. Thanks and enjoy! Richard, Kart and Barsto makes accurate barrels. But, I dediced to get the Scheumann for now. Thanks!
Trini Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Eagle40, EGW has Storm Lake 40 barrels in their Bargain Bin link on close out for $140. It didn't say way ramp cut they are.
Aircooled6racer Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hello: That is good to know about the breachface. I have also noticed Kimber is not making many 40's now as well. I would get a good barrel and do it once. Thanks, Eric
Aircooled6racer Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hello: Holy crap Kimber is not making any 40's now I guess the Eclipse II in 10mm is the only one. I remember when they had quite a few at one point. I guess they sell more 9mm/38 and 45's. Thanks, Eric

Trini, Thanks for the info, but I got to find out the ramp-cut. It looks like Wilson/Nowlin in the picture. Eric, Is the ramp-cut in the Kimber pistols Wilson/Nowlin? Or, just similar but different measurement. Your Kimber Eclipse 10mm I think has non-ramped barrel right? Edited January 24, 2010 by Eagle40
Nick Ennis Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Eagle 40, did you complete your conversion? i have the same Kimber and was considering doing the same with a Nowlin barrel. did you have to change anything else?

No, I decided not to go through with the conversion. And, just planning to buy a separate single stack in 40 cal. probably STI Trojan. I just keep my Kimber 9mm the way it was and use it for steel. thanks! Edited February 18, 2010 by Eagle40

My dealer said Kimber no longer built a .40, and could not find a left over model anywhere in the US. I already have an STI Trojan in 9mm, and love how it shoots. Ordered a new Trojan in .40;Dawson will ship within a week. These STI pisols are spoiling me...just sold my Kimber Team Match II .45 to buy more STI's!
TonyT Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I don't know about Kimbers specs. However, I had a Dan Wesson in 40 S&W which would not feed/eject 9mm rliably without a slide change.
