Ontarget Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 After buying a Benelli M2 for about $1000., how much more money is required to make it competition ready? Not talking about "Benelli perfection," just the basics to make it competition ready. Thank you.

J-Ho Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I'm thinking quite a bit of money is needed to make the gun competition ready. Buy lots of ammo and use it.

Just get some ammo that will run with the stock parts and have fun. If you have the funds then by all means send it to Benny and have it Bennytized!
mlmiller1 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I just bought a M2 myself. Before I did, I tried calling one of the big name benelli guys & never got answers or a call back on the message I left so I just went ahead & searched one out on my own. The one I bought has run perfectly with several different loads & all I've added was a long tube & an extended bolt handle. I think for now, that is all I'm going to do. I would really like to have the lifter welded but even that may wait a while. Probably until I tear off my thumbnail on the shorter lifter, then I'll have it fixed. Not sure with my skill level I could tell the difference in one tricked out anyway. So far, it has run perfectly. No sputter, no malf, just load it, & shoot it. If it stays this reliable, I am sold, send me some olive oil & some spaghetti! If you search, you might find a used one for less than that. I bought new but that is because I am impatient & was tired of waiting. I've also heard they are selling a benelli without the comfortech stock for several $$$ less than with it. Might be in the $700-800 range. MLM
Jesse Tischauser Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) Nordic tube and a lifter welded by C-Rums. Gotta have both and you don't NEED anything else. In my opinion an enlarged ejection port, oversized bolt release and a larger charging handle are nice. Edited January 17, 2010 by jtischauser
2MoreChains Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 All I did to my M2 was add a Nordic Comp tube to make it competition ready. Also have a hi viz front sight instead of the OEM bead, but I added that several years ago for bird hunting.
Religious Shooter Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 If I had to do it over again I wouldn't have had the carrier lightened. I'm not sure... but I think that's part of the problem on why my M2 sucks --- finicky on what I feed it. I personally would not run an M2 without: - welded up lifter (Tore my fingernail in half with the stock one.) - loading area worked on (Especially having the front shelf ground out. World of difference.) - extended mag tube

Also dremel the sharp edges off the barrel where the shell goes in so it will not get stuck on the barrel. It is very easy to do iff you look at the pics on this forum (also making the losading area more rounded) As sights i use a easyhit fiber in 2,5mm and as a rear sight i have a truglo fiber
HRider Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 You didn't say whether you had already bought one or not, but Academy Sports has an add in today's paper for Benelli M2 American for $799. It is a 28" gun, so you would probally want to send the barrel to Briley to be shotened. Aside from that, a Nordic mag tube (and clamp), several cases of shells, and a few drops of oil and you are ready to go. Welding up the carrier is a good thing also, I have not done that to my M1, but have caught my thumb in it a couple of times. Hurley
HRider Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Just looked on Gunbroker. Item number 153770124 is a NIB M2 with accessories for $1030. Has about 10 hours left. Hurley
Sako92S Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 If you look at the ESC09 Champion Raine Peltokoski Benelli. There is no fancy gadgets on it.
JRW Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Also check out the Dave's Metal Works accessories. Very happy with the parts on my M1S90.
patrickbeijer Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 If you look at the ESC09 Champion Raine Peltokoski Benelli. There is no fancy gadgets on it. Is it completely stock ? i know he uses a 26'' but no other modifications ?
Merlin Orr Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 If you look at the ESC09 Champion Raine Peltokoski Benelli. There is no fancy gadgets on it. Not the point at all. There are people who can win with about any gun. But they may win in spite of the gun not being modified - not because the gun has no modifications. IMO - To tell the average shooter a stock gun is as easy to shoot as a competition prepped gun is doing a disservice to the shooter. A properly prepared competition gun is easier to shoot in every regard..and is usually more dependable.

whiskey1 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 To make a base competition gun 1) Nordic tube, 2) Open loading port, 3) Install welded lifter, 4) Extended charging handle, 5) Hi-Vis front sight and 6) 10-22 rifle sight installed in rib. All in all should cost less than $300 if you pay someone to do the required milling. If you do it with a Dremel and file less than $200. There are indeed different ways to skin this cat but that is my recipe.
