jasmap Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) Well I think I've decided to slow down (NOT stop) my gun purchases (not my shooting, just my purchases) and parts purchases for USPSA & 3-Gun. I have at least one USPSA gun for every division except for Revo so I have what I "need." I guess we never really have all that we want. My reason is I want to start doing more gun collecting for my little boy. I have a few guns for him already and he is of course getting all my hand-me-down guns but there are several more I want in the collection for him. My wife thought I was full of crap and thought they were for me but she believes me now because he has 2 guns specifically built or bought for him that I do not shoot. He has a custom 1911 .40, 10/22, Model 41, a few handguns, a few shotguns, and hunting rifles in the safe waiting on him to get a little older. Here's an unfinished list of guns to buy: M1 Garand, Remington Model 600 Mohawk .308, 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army, AK47, Les Baer 1911 .45, Heirloom Precision 1911 .45, 1903A3, Browning Auto-5 shotgun, Browning Hi-Power, Luger, Mauser Broomhandle....... So what would you buy for your child if you haven't already? I know we have had discussions on what guns "WE" want to buy or put in the safe but now what would you buy when it means more than just a gun for you? Edited December 20, 2009 by jasmap
racerba Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 ALL my guns are for my daughter. I'm just testing them out for now, making sure they work.
JimmyZip Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Good you are starting now, but remember that it is never too late. My father has been buying guns for me and my girls the last few years. there is a literal arsenal that we will take posession of shoud he pass away, and many that he has already sent to us. Suffice it to say that my daughters are getting the weapons education that I got as a child.
HRider Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 My daughter (she is eight) has a really nice Colt Government that was manufactured in 1931 in the safe (can't go wrong with vintage 1911s). All of my guns will go to her one day as well. If your son is interested in guns, a nice M1 Carbine would be a good addition and one he could shoot sooner. I like old shotguns as well, maybe a nice 1897 or model 12 Winchester. Hurley
G-ManBart Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Colt Python....gotta be on that distinguished list! Pre-64 Model 70 in something fun like .270Win?
Chris Keen Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 ALL my guns are for my daughter. I'm just testing them out for now, making sure they work. Bob, I've seen your little girl at matches, and she seems to be more interested in picking flowers ....... for now. Nice idea Jason ...... And Hurley beat me to it. I was gonna say a M1 carbine would be great for a junior. I still love mine. .... Chris? A Colt Python? For a junior? Really?
jasmap Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 Ok, I like the Pre-64 Model 70 idea and the M1 Carbine idea also. These arealso not just for him to shoot when he is a kid but for him to have and HOPEFULLY keep and pass down to his kids.
11.43mm Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Old is great, newer is good too. Hook up with FN they have Winchester bolts in any caliber and the SCAR's and FP F2000 would be real conversation starters for his friends (especially if they watch Stargate), and 249's if he ever runs with a squad-oh, they also have Browning's sporting line. Noble effort for yoour son, I'll toast any upgrade to your safe!!!
Flexmoney Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I have one of those Remington .308's. I always want to say it has 660 marked on it, but it seems to have the features of the 600 (it is at my Mother's, so I can't go look). Being short and light, it is a handy gun. Kicks though.

I love the ones with the rib down the barrel. I don't know what it is about them but I love them. It might just be the 660 I meant.
racerba Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Bob, I've seen your little girl at matches, and she seems to be more interested in picking flowers ....... for now. for THEN. she is starting to shoot now and has her eye set on being on The Impossible Shot show on the Outdoors Channel. of course she still likes picking flowers.
ken hebert Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 So what would you buy for your child if you haven't already? I know we have had discussions on what guns "WE" want to buy or put in the safe but now what would you buy when it means more than just a gun for you? Sizeable quantities of ammunition for all of the weapons.

ken hebert Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 took me a while to find ammo for my C96 Broomhandle Mauser. (funny, I've got most of the ones in my collection that you named)
AlamoShooter Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 a 686 6"is a real workhorse 357 or 38 it will do it all. you can even shoot Rubber bullets with just primers
MarkCO Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Colt Python....gotta be on that distinguished list! I agree you need a good magnum DA revolver on the list. While a Python would be awesome, I am partial to the S&W .41 Magnums. You might also consider adding a nice J-frame or maybe a Smith 625/610 revo. A Weatherby UltraLight is a great choise for a hunitng rifle if you need more than the un-listed ones in the safe. How about a Glock 19/23 as well.

All came in .222,.223,.243, 6mm,.308,6.5Rem. mag and .350 Rem mag. .223's are very rare and can bring a premium price, last Montana collectible I saw was priced at $5,000. Mohawk was a promo deal.I really like the little Mohawks , they shoot very well, great coyote rifles, check Gunbroker they always seem to have some listed. Scott
jasmap Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 Thanks 6-shot. I thought it was the 600 and then I second guessed myself. The .223, for collector reasons, might be better but I am leaning towards trying to find a .308 or a 6mm. The .350 Rem Mag would be a cool one to have though.
G-ManBart Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 How about a .22 match rifle....Win 52 or something similar? Rem 40x or even a 513T would be a nice addition. Oh, the heck with that, go crazy! Holland and Holland double rifle in .375H&H.....yeah baby!

Oh believe me......if the govt ups my pay to 5 times what it currently is then I'll buy an H&H double or maybe a Perazzi shotgun. I do like the 40X so that's a good idea. Yankee Dog Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 How about an M1 carbine. A great piece of history and a hoot to shoot. Sized perfectly for the smaller folk as well. Yankee Dog
hitman Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Cant go wrong with Class 3 stuff. Nice Colt M16 & HK MP5.
cas Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 You know it doesn't matter, he's going to like everything else. I grew up with all sorts of different guns at my disposal. Why I got old enough to go shooting and buy guns on my own, of course my interest turned towards the things I DIDN'T have exposure to. On the other end, my brother in law spent lots of time wondering and worrying about what guns to buy his son. "Should I get this rifle or that shotgun for when he's older?" I told him, "why don't you let HIM decide what he likes and wants? Between you, me and my father he's surely not going to go wanting for guns." As it turned out, he shows almost no interest in shooting. The guns he did buy him don't get used.
spanky Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 ALL my guns are for my daughter. I'm just testing them out for now, making sure they work. This.
Ray_Z Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I've been saving up to get my granddaughter an Annie Oakley commemorative rifle. It's a cute little lever action 22. When you can find one, they are a little costly $800 +
