Calmwater
I have been thinking about putting together a log book of my training to try and remember any lessons I learn along the way. This just seemed like the smartest way to keep track of how much or little work I put in and what the results might be. I want to document goals, improvements and things I don't want to do again. My 2010 training goals are as follows: 1)I want to make B class in Production. I am currently low C class. 2)I want to average a total of 4 shoots, live fire training sessions or dryfire sessions a week. 3)I want to weigh 170 pounds (I currently weigh 185). 4)I want to shoot at least 1 Level 2 match. 5)I want to shoot at least 1 GSSF match. I am sure I could come up with more goals, but I would like to focus on these five. 1,2 and 3 require work and discipline. 4 and 5 require planning, money and permission. I haven't ever videoed my shooting, but I may try to get some video up along the way. Feedback and comments are welcome on this thread.

Calmwater
Thanks Paul. 12/18/2009 I shot around 85 rounds of 9mm today. First 50 or so were just slow fire at 10 yards testing function on a new pistol. The last 35 rounds or so I shot on 3 targets playing with a cadence drill from Burkett's how to shoot faster video. The Glock 17 shot well with no problems. I wanted to test it before I changed the connector. One thing I noticed was that my stock 22 has a lot smoother trigger just from having fired several thousand rounds through it. I will do a .25 cent trigger job and change the connector on the 17 to kinda hurry it along. First time I have shot standard plastic stock Glock sights in a while. Calmwater
Finished that trigger job a while ago. Dremel sure makes it easier. That and the - connector made the trigger considerably smoother. Try and get it to the range next week and make sure I haven't created any problems. Calmwater
12/20/2009 Just did about 20 minutes of dryfire. No timer, several draws. Noticing I am tilting my support hand forward more. My support hand index finger isn't getting out in front of the trigger guard and I'm pretty sure I don't want it to, but it isn't as tight against my other hand as it has been in the past. I drilled reloads from my gear several times. Draw fire two- reload fire two and so on through all four mags on my belt. I need to get or make some dummies to make the weight more consistent. Calmwater
12/21/2009 Shot 100 rounds of 9mm today. About 50 was close range group shooting just to test function. For the second 50 I worked transitions on 4 dots on one target. I did several single shot transitions then worked on doubles.
Calmwater
12/22/2009 I shot around 200 round of .22 out of a Browning Buckmark. The first 100 or so was close range group shooting to function test the pistol. The second hundred or so, I did transitions on 4 dots on a target at around 7 yards. Some shooting on the move. I shot 50 rounds of .40. A couple of five shot groups at 25 yards and then transitions between three targets. Some shooting on the move on three targets. This was the first time I have shot rimfire in years. The transition between the pistols was odd but not difficult.
Calmwater
12/29/2009 Watched Burkett basics video again. Did about 10 minutes of dryfire. Mostly slow draws just trying to perfect technique.
Calmwater
On 12/30/2009 I did about 15 minutes dryfire. Did some draws in the mirror. Noticed I raise my strong side shoulder and maybe create more movement and tension than necessary. A lot of slow draws. some moving backwards from index to the holster. Some eyes closed draw and open eyes to check index. Played a little with target transitions.
Calmwater
On 12/31/2009 I did about 25 minutes of dryfire at 3 1/3 targets at about 4 yards. I used a timer for the start and a few par times, but ended up ignoring the second beep because I had it set too fast to get a good sight picture. I worked a lot on transitions and some on reloads. I really focused on doing good reps and not just rushing through.
Calmwater
01/02/2010 About 30 minutes of dryfire. No timer. Draws facing, draws from surrender, draws from facing downrange and draws from surrender facing downrange. Most of the time I simulated 6 shot between 3 1/3 scale targets. I also did some reloading on the move and shooting on each target as I moved by. Ended with slow draws and slow reloads focusing on technique and perfect sight picture. Calmwater
Thanks for the encouragement. I haven't had any excuse the last half of this week. I plan on trying to keep a steady rate going after I go back to work Monday.
Calmwater
01/04/2010 Made it to the range for a short session today. Started with some group shooting at 15. Once I felt like I could even keep 5 rounds on a paper plate, I moved back to 25 for a couple more freestyle groups. Tried to focus on follow through for shot calling. I need more work on that for sure. Ended with some transition/cadence drills between three targets at 7 and then 4 yards. Tried to shoot consistent speed for all 6 shots and then pick up speed while still seeing my sights. Pretty good session.
Calmwater
01/06/10 Shot 100 rounds. Some 15 and 25 yard group shooting from freestyle. Some shooting on the move from 10-7 yards. Transitions and cadence drills. One shot draws at 4 yards. Need to get in a couple of dryfire sessions before the end of the week. I was planning to shoot a club match this Sunday, but the weather outlook isn't good. I am a little sore after working out last night. My boys and I tried a karate class. We are joining, so that should be a good workout a couple of nights a week. Hopefully it will help me dump a few pounds and with some of the explosive movement stuff. I did it when I was younger, but my body is different than it was then.
Calmwater
01/13/2010 Shot around 150 rounds. Started with freestyle group shooting at 25. 1 shot draws at 4 yards. 1.05 was my best today. 7 yards bill drills. 2.51 was my best with probably a 1.2 draw. Plenty to work on. Added grip tape to my 34 for the first time. I think I like it. Need more dry fire. I have done a couple of martial arts classes since my last training session, so I am getting some exercise, but I need to do some fitness work. Calmwater
01/16/10 I did about 25 minutes of dryfire. Used the timer and miniature targets in basement. Did a lot of one shot draws. Some draws from surrender. 6 shots on 3 targets. Some reloads. Ended with several slow draws for form.
Calmwater
On 01/21/2010 I shot about 70 rounds today through a performance center 627 with an eotech mounted on top of it. A retired officer brought it to our indoor range and had some lead free 38. It had a good trigger job, but with the hard primer ammo we were shooting there were a lot of misfires. I would have rather shot it without the sight, but that's the breaks. Neat gun. This wasn't what I call training, but it was rounds fired. It was one more reminder that someday, after I have had some success with the guns I have I want to explore revolver shooting. No money or time for it now, but I can clearly see the appeal. Calmwater
I have been shooting a 100-200 rounds a week. I have started group shooting. Finally grouping well enough to notice my gun shoots several inches high with the Warren Tactical Sights. I installed a Dawson Precision fiber optic front a few weeks ago .125 wide by .245 tall. Shooting point of aim now. I haven't been dryfiring alot. I need to pick it up on that front. I shot my first club match of the year last weekend. Still haven't got the match results yet. I have a much clearer memory of the stages than I usually do. I shot the 2nd through 6th stages of the match with no mikes. The first stage was a different story. I had two mikes and left a popper. I really enjoyed the match and learned some. I hope to increase my dryfire and keep making it out to the range once a week or so.
Calmwater
Well, I got my match results from last weekend yesterday. I was 4th out of 8 in Production. I am shooting around as many points as the better shooters, but I am taking about a third longer to do it. I need to work on shooting good points but doing everything else FASTER. My worst stage ( the first one) I missed a popper and had two mikes. Before I shoot next month I am going to work hard in dryfire on draws, movement and reloads. I have been doing accuracy work at the range and I want to add some shot calling drills.

Calmwater
Well, looking at last years goals, other than losing weight, I didn't hit any of them. I am going to try these this year: I want to make A class in production. I am going to practice at least 3 times a week. I am going to shoot at least 8 matches this year. Calmwater
I was issued a Gen 4 22 today. I am left handed. I changed the mag release over to the right side. I shot 100 rounds after cleaning out the packing grease. No problems so far. I need to do A BUNCH of dryfire work on mag changes, but I can see where it is going to be faster with time. We only have a few of these, so I told our rangemaster I would give this one a lot of work. If I can come up with a couple more gen4 mags to make a 20 rounder or two I am going to shoot limited with it this season.
