galt11 Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Does anyone know if Kimber still makes any 1911s in the series 70 style without the safety in the slide like the series 80s? Adam
Steve J Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Did they ever? I believe the lawyer parts are standard in all of their models. You have to go to a semi-custom (Les Baer, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat) or full custom in order to get a 1911 without the unnecessary junk. Well, there are the Colt Series 70 replicas, but they would require work.
A62335 Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) Yes. The Warrior, Desert Warrior, and SIS line of guns do not have the Swartz safety. Kimbers without the "II" behind the name are S70 guns, guns with the "II" have the safety in them. Also, Kimber did not start making guns with the Swartz safety until 2001 I believe, so all of their guns made prior to then were S70. Edited December 17, 2009 by A62335
Duane Thomas Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I have heard the term "Series I" applied to Kimber's non-firing pin lock equipped 1911s, to differentiate them from the firing pin lock equipped "Series II" guns, but I'm unsure if this is an official term from Kimber, or simply something shooters have come up with themselves.
sfinney Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) I have a Kimber Custom, one of the first runs, and it is series 70. So yes, they built them without all the extra internal safeties, for some time. But as to still making them..... not sure. Edited December 17, 2009 by sfinney
Duane Thomas Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 See A62335's post above, which is correct.
galt11 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 Thanks for the help everyone. You confirmed what I had heard but wanted to make sure. Adam
