Advantage Arms or separate gun?

The range where I have been shooting had two stages of steel challenge along with the USPSA match this last week. It was SO MUCH FUN. I shot my production Glock and had a great time. When they actually start running matches I want to shoot multiple divisions. I don't own a rimfire pistol right now.

I think the steel will be a lot of fun, but most of my goals are related to USPSA shooting. So I guess some of my questions are:

If I can't find a Advantage Arms conversion or just decide I want a Ruger of a Browning, will my trigger time on the different gun be as beneficial as time on the conversion kit would be? It seems like it wouldn't be but I wonder if shooting the different system would help increase my awareness to read the gun as opposed to just reacting from rote memory.

I think the grip angle on the Ruger is closer to that of the Glock, but the balance of the Browning might be closer. For those of you who shoot glocks in production or limited, what do you shoot in rimfire? Do you think rimfire shooting has improved your shooting in USPSA?

well depends on what you want to do. The serious rimfire shooters at our club have some serious rimfires. They use a 22/45, 1911 grip angle, with tacsol uppers and c-mores. They are light and fast. When I shoot rimfire I use a Kimber .22 conversion so that I'm still practicing with my 1911. I typically still draw from the holster one run and from the low ready the second run.

If your serious about winning I would suggest a dedicated .22 rig. If you want the practice and feel with your current platform I would go with the conversion.

Ditto on Corey's advice. I have an Advantage kit for the Glocks and the sucker works, just read the manual first... :roflol: ...I know....but trust me, read it and use the ammo they recommend and it will run.

If you want to stick to one platform this is a great way to do it!

Good luck,

it may be somewhat unrelated....but i have and AA it for my 1911, and I love it.....they make a quality product....just be sure you follow their ammo requirements (40gn. HV).....i wouldn't compete with it, but it's great for practice...

I wouldn't trust my old AA kit to run at anything other than a local match, but it did make for very good practice.

I am wondering what SHOT show will have this year. Hopefully we'll hear more about Tac Sol's conversion that is supposed to be in the works.

Ended up buying a Browning 5.5 with the fiber optic front. The grip angle and index seemed like a compromise between the mark III and 22/45. I might even get a wild hair and put a dot on it. I still want a conversion eventually, but don't want to pay a hundred dollar premium or wait 3 months. Maybe the TacSol will be a longslide........

Funny you should mention Glocks and rimfires! I shoot a Glock for Steel Challenge centerfire and shoot a Buckmark for rimfire. It's not too bad going back and forth between them, as both have a fairly longer trigger pull. Now, going from a Glock to a 1911 platform is a whole different story. One that takes much more practice, as I found out. Don't try to make that 1911 trigger move as much as the Glock trigger.

I had an Advantage Arms conversion but just didn't shoot it much. (I think I let it go too cheaply here in the classifieds.)

There's something to be said for a pure 22 platform, instead of a conversion. But on the otherhand, BJ Norris shot a TacSol 2211 conversion with great success. Whatever direction you choose, just work on it until it runs consistently.

I'm really hoping to see a Glock conversion at the TacSol booth in January.

Doug, are you switching to a Glock conversion? I thought TacSol was working on your upper? Since we're all talking about switching, I may be shooting a 2211 conversion next August. We'll see!

Good luck!

Glad to hear someone else that is comfortable with the Buckmark and a Glock. I am hoping I will be able to shoot the Buckmark well. I know CCI minimags are suppose to shoot well in most rimfires. What ammo does your Buckmark like? Any ammo to stay away from?
