Neomet Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I was dorking around getting email from my mac.com account to forward over to my Droid. Somehow I managed to get all the mail in my inbox to vanish and now anything new that comes in is there for about 10 min and then it also vanishes. Doesn't go to my Droid, trash bin or to my junk mail. Just goes poof. All other folders are fine. I disconnected the forwarding of the mail to my Droid but that has had no effect. Any suggestions?
BritinUSA Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I don't have a solution but perhaps someone at the Apple Discussion forums may be able to help: Apple Discussion Forums
raz-0 Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Macs, like glocks, don't break. So this is clearly impossible. Have a nice day. Actually I'm nicer than that, but couldn't resist a little snark for all the mac fanboys. Check your mail filters. I've run into a situation where a filter got created automagically that was making stuff vanish at regular intervals. Forget the details, but it was a PITA to diagnose, had similar symptoms, and it was definitely a mail filter problem with "mail".

benos Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I use Entourage for mail on Mac, so I'm not much help. (Thought maybe getting your answer might bring in a Macmail wizard.) In Entourage, there are "Rules" which can be created which can do things like auto-delete messages from certain folders. Maybe there's something similar in Macmail... that the Droid somehow had something to do with. be
BritinUSA Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 In the Mail preferences there are also RULES/ACTIONs that may need to be looked at.
Neomet Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 I looked in rules and there is only one and it wouldn't apply. I can't find where filters are. Don't see them in preferences or any other dropdown. I also looked in the Mobileme account and didn't see any there.

Are you getting your mail with Pop or IMAP? If it is IMAP that mail resides on the server. If it is POP there is usually an option in the mail client to leave mail on the server. Make sure that is set correctly. How are you forwarding mail over? Looking at the options in my droid I see options to sync mail with Google and Exchange. Are you forwarding mail your mac.com account to your google account or retrieving your mac.com mail from your Google account?
Neomet Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 I was retrieving it from my Droid but I quit pulling it when the problems started. Unfortunately the problems continue. I'm having trouble determining if this is a POP or IMAP. What I origionaly did was set up an email at mobileme. Can't tell what type of account that is.?.??

Any suggestions? mobileme can be imap or pop.. you would need to check on that at the account. As far as your Mac, look here.. Users-Library-Mail. See if the mail is there. If it is.. then we can go one way, if it isn't then we are heading down another direction. 10.5 or 10.6 on the Mac? If you are syncing the email with the droid, it sounds like this is still syncing and polling the mac for the messages, even if it isn't showing them on the Droid. Give us some more details..
Neomet Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) Nope, nothing in my Mac inbox folder. The other folders do have the messages that have always been there. I'm looking all over MobileMe but I can't find if it is IMAP or not. Where would I look for that? I was pulling the mail to my Droid but I disabled that when I started having problems. Edited to add: Not sure if this says anything but here is my McGyver workaround. I have my Gmail pull the mail from Mobileme and have my Macmail pull the mail from my Gmail. What happens then is that while the email in my Mobileme and the Mobileme account on my Macmail vanishes it is still there on my Gmail account and in my Macmail Gmail account which syncs with my Droid. Oy!! Edited December 17, 2009 by Neomet
