Not getting instructions with parts kit.

Ordered a kit to modify a long gun. The parts came in, no directions. Looking at the job at hand, I was pretty sure I could figure it out, but I do like to RTFM when I can.

Went to their web page. In their "tech support" section they only have contact information so you can pay them to do the work after you get frustrated with it.

Fortunately they offered enough photographs of the work at hand that most the questions I had were answered anyway.

I know your pain. I work as a police fleet upfitter for a very large company. Our orders come in by tractor trailer on pallets, packed in bulk. Guess what? Bulk dont getpacked in the normal boxes with the normal instructions. So, when we get in some new or odd piece of equipment it "hey, come figure this one out...."

did I mention that we work on commission?

included with the "Parts" are a cool looking logo and a photo of a differnt gun with parts bolted on that do not resemble the ones in my hand.

no printed instructions

just a 100th gen copy Technical line parts drawing drawn with a crayon by an 8 year old with the shakes.

Ooohhh there is an e-mail address. . . that generates an error message each time I hit send.

I spend more time looking for the manufacturer that anything else.

looks a bit dubious as to function and purpous

find one part that either diffies physics and logic or is not for this gun . . Kinda looks like a broken 1911 safety that someone welded to a Hi Power sear. . . .I decide its extra

Take original parts out

Lable them. . . . . Just in case

attempt to install new parts . . . One of the smuges on the pacage label under the right lights could be "Drop in" after one hour the only that going to drop is my head on to the table. . .

get gun together.

Load . . Just one round.

Pull trigger to fire gun

it goes bang

reset trigger

trigger resets on to the floor.

take out the parts

put gun together. . .break origanal trigger reinstalling

never touch Sigmas again

I just ran across a case with a trigger from a very reputable company. It has an instruction manual, brief, and a CD with a video, more detailed but not a very clear image at some critical places, and the two things don't completely agree on the sequence of steps - like when to apply the locktite.

It's supposed to go in with only the use of some "basic tools". I wasn't aware that a belt grinder was a basic tool, but that's needed (or at least hightly recommended) for a couple of steps, either of which could destroy your $200 trigger.

So, there I am, in my basement work area, reading the instructions when it says to refer to the video for more instructions. So, I go to my den and fire up the CD to view the video. For the next 30min, it's watch a couple minutes of video two or three times and make sure I understand what to do and how things orient to each other, then go down to the basement and try and reproduce the step. Finally, I gave up and went to my office and got my laptop and brought it back to the house so I could have the CD with me in my work area.

Video instructions are fine but they are no substitute for good printed instructions with clear, easy to understand diagrams. Particularly when you are working with fiddly bits down inside a receiver where your fingers won't fit and you can't see squat.
