mildot1
Anyone shooting a 9x23 with a MG 124 CMJ bullet using autocomp? Mildot
Intel6
I will be when my 8 lbs of AutoComp gets here. I have been using 4756 which works well but since I will be switching to a 9mm eventally I figured I could use the Autocomp for both. mildot1
Well lets get our heads together and share notes! I am thinking around 7.2 gr to start with 1.25 col. How bout you? Intel6
Honestly, When I get the powder I will start working up loads. In this thread there are a few people who mention using AC in Super comp: AutoComp Thread One lists 7.9 behind a 121 gr. bullet and another lists 8.1 in a super case for a V12 Tangfoglio. It is lookling like in 9mm you are in the low 7's but in the bigger cases you need to get closer to 8 grs. I will also plan on starting in the low 7's and work up. I found that when using WIN 9x23 brass there is a bit less internal volume than the Starline brass so I reach major velocities faster. My powder won't be here for a few more days so I won't be doing anything with it until next week. Neal in AZ
mildot1
FWIW Got the chance to chrono some loads today and here is the data. Its cold here (23deg) but they were about 50 deg ambient temp before I opened the garage door. Used a CED M2 chrono with infra red kit, set at 13' from muzzle to start sensor, all lights off in shop and door pulled down as far as possible. Shots were fired at about 4" above sensors. Some of the info was lost on the 7.2 load when I hit the wrong button Loaded with MG 124gr CMJ in Win 9x23 brass, COL 1.25. 7.2 7.5 7.7 A-3 1334 1390 1425 AV 1383 1418 ES 30 23 SD 8 8 A-3 PF 172.4 176.8 AV PF 165.4 171.5 175.0 Powder seems to burn very clean, no smoke at all
mildot1
Had that info spaced out to make it easy to read, I have no idea why it became compressed?? Anyway just read starting on the right going down.
Intel6
Thanks, since I am using 124 CMJ's with my Win 9x23 brass and will be shooting them over the exact same chrono set up, it will be interesting to see how our results compare. I am shooting a full sized factory SV with 4 hybrid holes. Finally got the tracking e-mail for my powder and it will be here in 2 days. mildot1
Forgot to add that was with a Win SR primer. Neal Have you tried shooting any 9x19 out of yours? I tried the other day and had a 50%cycle rate, point of impact and group size almost identical to 9x23 load. Trying to use the gun for USPSA major and a steel gun, so I will be experimenting with some light loads soon. Brad

Brad Brad, The guy I got it from had shot some 9mm's through it and so I gave it a try and it ran fine. I probably put close to 500 rds of Major 9mm through it with no problems. When I bought it I got the 9x23 brass and haven't shot any 9mm in it since. I am actually contemplating getting a second barrel/comp fitted in 9mm so I can shoot both. Intel6
Well I thought I would dig this thread up as I finally was able to get out and test some loads. I shot these over the IR screens of a CED M2 These were shot out of a 9x23 SV Factory gun with 4x hybrid holes and the long comp. Case: Winchester Bullet: 124 MG CMJ Primer: CCI SR LOA: 1.260" I just decided to put a mark on the wall and pick two loads after looking over what others were using for Autocomp loads in super/SC. I figured I might not find the right load right away but I would get some data to figure out where I stood. I picked 7.2 & 7.4 grains of AC as a start and as you can see below, the 7.4 is about right. As I mentioned above, the 38S/SC shooters were using a bit more powder but I knew with my Win 9x23 cases (thicker with less internal case capacity) I would be using less and that proved to be a correct assumption. 7.2 grs. Autocomp 10 shot avg: 1346 fps PF: 166.9 7.4 grs. Autocomp 10 shot avg: 1372 fps PF: 170 The loads felt good and the dot track looked good also but that was just an initial assesment while shooting a small amount over the chrono. I have to load up some quantity now and get out and see how I like them. Neal in AZ
mildot1
Well it appears that we ran very close with our chronos. Looks like somewhere around 7.5 will work. My gun also has a long comp with three hybrid holes. I'm also waiting for warmer weather to really do the fine tuning. Lately I have only been shooting 9x19 major out of the gun with 7.0 grs, gun has ran perfect but I'm still waiting for my chrono to get back so I can test those. I had a lot of 9x19 brass and not a lot of 9x23 so I'm saving the good stuff for matches. Mildot
