Did anyone else remember today???????? the day the war began for our fathers and grandfathers??? Seems anymore you don't hear to much, over 2000 military men and women lost their lives that day in a sneak attack, and many more in the years following it, with I quess the last major loss being the USS INDIANAPOLIS being sunk by a jap sub, I think there is only one hoosier left alive to day from that attack. Every now and then I hear some revisionary say we should not have dropped the bomb on japan, but when I ask if their grandfather or great grandfathers was in the pacific during that time, would they have survivied the land attack that was planned for japan? They always get this puzzled look on their face, and I say yea yer young ass might have not be born if we had to attack by land, then they shut up and go away. They don't understand the time or the cost of war, in blood and body count. I hope someone else remembers today before it's over.

No I don't forget these important days in history. Where I work we lowered the flags to half staff this morning. When one guy asked why we lowered the flags it was all I could do to not...........

I saw an old gentleman last year somewhere wearing a USS Indianapolis survivor hat. Out of respect I did not ask any of the questions I really wanted to. When the guy left the store I told another worker, "now there goes a brave man" or words to that effect. And of course he replied, "Why?" Ten minutes later he was stunned at what he learned about the Indy.

I am always deeply saddened on this day when I look around at all the Japanese cars the older people are driving around and I think what a material country we have become. We have become so politically correct and concerned about the almighty dollar that we have forgotten history. A great man once said "THOSE WHO FORGET HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT", or something like that. Another said "NEVER GET INVOLVED IN A WAR ON AN ASIAN LANDMASS". Politicians have forgotten this one three times now and so far we are 0 for 3.

War should not be a political statement, it should be kill the enemy leaders and let the survivors rebuild.

I was at work at the courthouse today when this older gent comes in with his son. The father was wearing a ball cap with WWII Veteran on it. I asked him what brand he had served in and he said Army Air Corps. I asked him when he went in and he replied Dec 8th. I shook his hand and told him thank you for your service. He said that I was the first person to thank him today. That made me fell good but a bit pissed at all the other people that probably saw him wearing the ball cap and never said anything to him.

I was working with a guy yesterday and asked him if he knew what day it was. He said "Monday". Thinking I had him I asked, is there anything special about today? He smiled and said "Yeah It's Pearl Harbor Day you moron."

Many people will remember, many will forget. Time makes the heart grow fungus. The brain too.

I thank Harry S for having the intestinal fortitude to drop the bombs. My father was learning Japanese phrases in preparation for the invasion. If Harry hadn't ordered the drop, there is a high probability that I along with a lot of others wouldn't be here today.

I usually put up a paragraph or two in August reminding all those that decry the bombing that this was the end of the war a war we did not start.

There are a lot of people that need to remember that. 12-7-41, 9-11-01, remember them as the start. I hope that the latter will have an ending that we will be as happy about as the former. Sadly it seems that the world is prepared to roll over this time.

It was a one-liner for CBS and 30 seconds for ABC showing the Arizona Memorial. In my time zone when they were both on at the same time I watched ABC so I didn't have to watch CBS sob stories.

Hey, who cares about those that gave their lives when you got the. "How many has Tiger screwed story?" :angry2:

I use Pearl Harbor Day every year to remind me to read a book about World War II. This years book is "Utmost Savagery: The Three Days of Tarawa".

It is almost unbelievable what many of these heros witnessed and went through. It is also sad that so few have knowledge and respect for their sacrifice.
