Sumtoc
Looking for an ambi safety that is lower than the stock STI. Know that the Swenson has the extra surface to protect the thumb from the slide but can't tell if it is lower? I was hoping to find one that would allow a lower thumb position when resting on the safety. With my short thumbs the stock version forces a fair gap between my palm and the backstrap and other grip issues.... Thanks
G-ManBart
I don't have one here to compare, but my memory is that the Swenson is a touch lower. I've also seen a safety Matt McLearn cut and welded up such that the lever was relocated near the bottom of the side plate (not sure what you really call it...the vertical part) for someone with very short fingers. You could probably call him and see if he'd make one for you. R,
fred fague
On my STI open I did have a Swenson with thumb rest and it was too high. I changed to a Wilson that was tear shaped, narrow at the back and wider in the front. This allowed my thumb to rest at a better angle. Also check that the bottom side of the safety is not hitting on the top of the grip. I had to relieve the bottom on both sides, which allowed the thumb safety to rest lower. duramaxtech
I don't know if this will work for you or not, I have short thumbs and fingers with huge palms. I used an Ed Brown ambi safety and welded an extention on the drivers side (left side of the gun, I tend to talk in automotive terms.) Solved my issues. Chris Spiess
Blue Low Mount Safety SKU #:340-100-044 Mfr:GUNSITE Retail Price:$41.90 I am just finishing up a gun - albeit a single stack - for my 10 year old son and used one of these. With a standard safety he is unable to rest his thumb on the safety lever, but the Gunsite piece give him a pretty decent grip. Not an ambi, but do you really need an ambi? King, It's sounds like you have actually done an install on a 2011, if so, how much material did you remove from the grip or did you remove all of the material for clearance from the safety ? There dosen't seem like there is a lot of material on the safety to work with. Thanks, George
ParaGunner
I have not installed. one, but if it fits a1911 it will fit a 2011. As for the installation, always try to fit the cheaper part. ,in this case its the safety.
