So this past Sunday I go to the range for a little practice and decide to shoot my old Dan Wesson, since it has a god awful heavy dbl action pull and I figure if I can keep the shots in the A-Zone with that, my 625 will be a breeze. (Also I had a bunch of WW 130 gr factory 38s that won't make PF for USPSA or ICORE to burn up.) After about 50 rounds, I felt something brush my hand as I fired and looked down just in time to see a small piece fall to the ground. At the lower rear corner of the cylinder opening of the frame, there is a small half circle shaped piece that sticks out to engage the rear of the cylinder and stop it when the rounds are ejected. On the DW the side plate is on the left side and this is fitted in there. On my S & W's this stop or stud or whatever appears to be a machined part of the frame. I have the peice that came out and it slides back in, but I know it will not stay if I keep shooting it. Could I get it welded back in, or do I need to try and find this obscure part and have it fitted? Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

In the olden days, I can only guess because I read the book about them olden days, I think the stops were pressed into the frame but I am sure the ones that know will chime in with the correct information. One thing of note was that I have known a few guys run the Dan Wesson on the old Combat matches, steel version of the now USPSA matches, and they were a mite tempermental, the Dan's not ...well... those guys too. later rdd

Bwana : While I have never had a Dan Wesson apart, I recently replaced the frame stud on a model 28 I converted to 45acp. the Older S&W studs are riveted to the frame from the inside, I used a round nosed punch while supporting the outside of the stud on a small anvil. To protect the frame I covered it with stainless steel tape and used a small piece on the stud as well. Since my third hand was out shopping I taped the frame to the anvil which kept it in place while peening the inside.
