JD45
Idk. If you read the COC catalog Vogel's ad says he trained his grip to 165-195lbs.. The # 2 is 195. Somebody call him... lol.

He can close a #3 from a deep set. Saw it with my own eyes. Tried it after he did it and don't think I even got the handles to parallel. I am about 1/16" from an "official" close on a #2. lugnut
These are cool, fun grips. I just did my first set of 10 with .5 with my strong hand... only 7 with my weak hand. Yeah I need some work but I've improved in less than a week. Do you think they "lighten up" that quick? Or are my muscles changing that quickly? I can see me pounding out the #1s in no time! DonovanM
Do you think they "lighten up" that quick? Or are my muscles changing that quickly? From the KTA program: "Spring engineers told us that 25-50 cycles (closures) should season a gripper fully and the closure pressure should level off. Testing to date indicates that 50-100 cycles are required to season a gripper." What you're probably experiencing is what are called "noob gains" - usually people gain a goodly amount of strength after just starting to work out, but your progress will slow down somewhat soon after. beltjones
After finally deciding on the #1 for my first, it arrived today. I can close it completely about 8 times in my right hand, 5 in my left. I don't really know why I'm so excited about this piece of equipment, but I can't wait to close the #2. Do ya'll think closing a number 3 would ever be possible without being a heavy strong dude? I barely weigh 170lbs., so I'll be happy closing a #2, but I will close that one for sure one day. Word is Bob Vogel can close a #3 with a deep set. I don't know Bob, but I made a point of standing next to him at Nationals a couple of times. I'm 5'11" 175lbs, and he's quite a bit bigger than me. I'd hardly say he's an example of a small dude who can close a #3.

He's not built like Mike Seeklander or Mike Hughes at least.

JD45
How do you train a huge imbalance of your hands? With my left hand, I can barely close the #1 5 reps on the first set. On the fourth set with my right hand, I closed it 14 reps. WTF?? I don't know how to make the left catch up. edit: I started a training question thread. wurm
My #2 came earlier this week and I can allllmost close it with either hand. I bought the #1.5 too and I'm glad I did. I have been using a Trainer and a #1. The trainer was a good warmup and with the #1 I could do sets of fourteen or so. With the #1.5 I can do six or so good reps, though surprisingly my weak hand is a tiny bit stronger. Go figure.
lugnut
I hope people keep posting progress on this thread. Seems like there are some strong people on this thread. I just did a set of 10 with my .5s... yeah... the .5s. Gonna order the 1.0 next. I do a few sets of ten with the Sport, then a couple max sets with the .5. I might order the Trainer and 1.0 and try doing this: Set of 10 with Sport Set of 10 with Trainer 2 Sets of 10 with .5 2 max set with 1.
RussellM
I start out with some crappy gripper from Dicks for a easy warm up, then 2-3 sets of 10 with the trainer, then 2 sets of 10 with #1. Then I do 1 more set to failure with the #1. I work on cars everyday so I have a decent grip to start with

Another thing in a long list that makes me hate him.... I hope you don't hate me guys. I happend to have ok grip even I didn't need to train it very hard. I guess I am lucky. I got those grippers and I could close CoC #2 at the first time I tried it with wide opening. Second time when I tried them my friend told me how those grippers should close with deep set I managed to close CoC #2,5 with deep set. It was something like 2 months that I could close CoC #3 first time with deep set. Here is vid for it. I hope you enjoy it. It brings nice memories. First time is always first time. If I can do it you can do it.

Tzygä
Yes, I know personally this referee/host Kimmo Kokko and I have seen this guy Teemu Ilvesniemi also. My friends Matti Heiskanen MM1 (Mash Monster 1) and Juha Harju MM2 (Mash Monster 2) and CoC #3 (Captain of Crush #3) were there where this vid happend. Mash Monster is deep set close. Here is my friend Juha Harju cert his Mash Monster 2 and he manage to do not only 1 rep but 3 reps with MM2 cert gripper and he was 42:nd man to close this gripper in the world. This I call power. I was there to witness this certification. http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?showtopic=37842 Here Kimmo Kokko vid and judge when I close his CoC #3. You can identify his speech. You hope can see STI logo on my chest. Edited January 16, 2012 by Tzygä

I can't close the #2 every time quite yet, I still have to get my fingers around it just right to close it.
Tzygä
My program is not a secret. I train twice a week. First warm up reps (3x#1 , 1x#1,5 , 1x#2 , 1x#2,5) after that I try to close #3 gripper three times and if I can't I help for my other hand and close the gripper. I try to keep it closed as long as I can. Then I open my hand carefully and try it again after 8-10 minute rest period. That is all. Works for me. Just don't overtrain my friend told me and I just belived them. My friend are Grip Monster as you can see in my earlier post. I hope this will work for you also. Use Ironmind Rubber Bands also. I you can close #2 with credit card close you should be preatty close to close #2,5 with deep set. Good Luck! DonovanM
Hey DonovanM, did you already close that #2.5 gripper? I hope so. Oh man, haven't even come close. I'm about 1/4" away with both hands on a deep set. Not gonna happen anytime soon I don't think. I've also been slacking off on my workouts for the past couple weeks. Tsk tsk, but I'm back now
Tzygä
Ok, don't worry about it you will get it. #2 gripper CCS close is a great close and really great for shooters.
lugnut
I just think I figured out what "deep set" means! LOL. I was thinking it meant doing a good long set of reps!!
DonovanM
I think my hands are finally getting used to the grippers! I had to skip a number of workouts due to missing pieces of skin, but my fingers are toughened up now. I can still close the #2 with my right hand fairly easily, but I'm still 1/8" away with my left. I can also usually do about 10 reps of the #1 with my right and 8 or so with my left. Haven't tried the 2.5 with a deep set again yet. JD45
Your progress sounds about the same as mine. My left hand is weaker though. I'm about 1/4" away from a #2 left hand close, but can do 3 reps with right hand.
DonovanM
Closed the #2 with my weak hand today! Just barely but it clicked. And I'm about an 1/8" away from a 2nd rep on my strong hand. Also close with a deep set on the 2.5 strong hand. Woohoo! I've also been working on form, and 15 reps with the #1 with both hands comes fairly easily. I've gotta get a 1.5 or something, I can either do 15 reps with the 1 or 1 rep with the 2. Not a lot of leeway there.
