Fighting Load Carrier (FLC) Vest

Recommended Posts

Your loadout will be better if you place everything...I treat mine like a range bag. It goes to all the stages but I seldom use all I carry. The "cumberbund" style chest rack gets a lot of use and mags look to be handy even when prone.

I've never done three gun but I've seen many videos and I don't think that load bearing vests are popular in that sport. I can see where you'd want everything handy but they would just weigh you down with all the running. I can see real operators using their real battle vests so they can train just like they fight, but honestly, most of us are gamers not warriors. Most of the guys at our range that show up like they just jumped out of Rainbow Six video game usually have more wrench time setting up their gear, than actual trigger time behind the gear. Go to some matches first and see what other guys are running in your area.

Even the warriors at matches do not wear their work rig - they go for speed. Also, a vest will probably mean some kind of drop-leg holster for your pistol. This is ok for many matches, but is not generally allowed in USPSA.

Regardless, think about shooting positions as you place gear. For instance, can you access ammo when prone?

Get a good two piece belt and go from there. Have Amber feed you a little better and you can drastically increase the amount of gear you can fit on your belt. :)

Looks like I need to move my mind in the direction of the belt. I have an urge to set up in a way that would also be good for shtf type of stuff, but I realize I need to move into another way of thinking for 3 gun.

Amber made some great nacho's last night and grilled chicken the night before, so she's trying to do her part to help me out with space available for gear.

The FLC isn't the most comfortable thing to load down and wear. There are a lot better options out there if you want a vest set up.

If you are going to use it for 3 gun the most practical thing would be to put some shot shell carriers on it for longer shotgun stages and throw it on when you need it. Run your rifle and pistol mags on your belt.

So what are the better options?.... TT Mav with the X-Harness.

The TT Mav holds shotgun shells and everything else is on the belt.

That's a better option right there.

The FLC tends to sag in the front when it is loaded down. It was designed to be worn over the IBA so the shoulder straps are thin, and don't feel comfortable over just a t-shirt. Just my opinion anyway.

You could always get one of those weighted vests that you use for work outs, sew some molle straps on them and use them for matches. Matter of fact they should require them for He Man class..... :P

I will definitely look into that... I'm not sure if I can wear it over my vest that has weights and chains dragging behind it.

I have a modular vest system that Coyote Tactical built for me. The different front pannels interchange with fastex buckels so I can swap it out for whatever I need to do.

AR15 Mag carrier:

Uzi/9mm AR/Glock 30 rounders. Holds 8

SAIGA-12, holds 4 ten rounders. This is the piece I most commonly use for 3 Gun matches, particularly Trooper Division. Subgun pouch is attached. I use Glock 30 rounders or Uzi mags in it depending on what the stage requires

Back pieces:

Camelback can still be used as a stand alone unit:

Pistol Belt:

Spec Ops Brand Belt and thigh rigs. VAPOR holster chassis has Safariland holster installed. I prefer the VAPOR holster chassis becuse the dual suspension system limits back and forth movement on the leg.

AR mag pouches on thigh are from Coyote Tactical. They are kydex lined.

The dump pouch was sized to hold 4 empty Saiga mags.

Suspenders help distribute the weight and add to comfort. Duty belt keepers make sure the pistol belt does not ride up over my pants belt.

That is great... Thank you for putting that info together - it looks like that is the direction I am considering

I am still kicking this around. I know this is a game, but...... I think I would like a set up that would also be good for shtf - - I don't see me as a guy who will be so good that I might get a sponsor and shoot for a living.....

Not trying to stir things up, just looking to have fun and train at the same time. I'll get there one way or the other.
