mattmcg
Well I'm finally making my way into shotgun competitions for 3 gun and am in need of a recommendation for a set of shotshell carriers. What do you guys recommend and how many should I get? I'm looking for a belt mounted option and will be shooting in limited class.
J-Ho
california competition works seems to work pretty well. I'd just got back from RM3G and wished I had more. I'd say 3-4 6 rounders will get you through most small matches. I'd get a few more for big matches, just in case.
Dan Sierpina
I use Choate 6 round carriers. 4 are usually on my belt. Some adhesive velcro (the smooth half) stuck on the inside of the carrier keeps the shells from bouncing out, and keeps them secure for a good grab. They're inexpensive too! JRW
I use the Man Mountain Engineering caddies. Hold the shells tight and seem to be indestructible. A bit pricy, but I only want to buy them once. http://www.manmountainengineering.com/

00bullitt
I prefer the Man Mountain Engineering caddies. I carry as many as 7 on my belt. They hold 4 shells each which is what I prefer to use for the weak hand load as I grab and load four at a time. I have used the Californina Competition Works carriers in the past but cannot fit as many in the same space on my belt as the MME carriers. Its hard to beat the cost of the Choate and CCW carriers though and they work fine.
gose
I have eight of the CCW four-shell carriers, but rarely carry more than six on my belt.

As long as there is not too much running I love the Choates. I have had problems losing a shell or two when running though. I'll have to try the velcro trick. StealthyBlagga
I assume from your question that you keep a firing grip on the shotgun with your strong hand while you grab 3-4 shells at a time with your weak hand and stuff them in from underneath ? If you are doing something different (like loading one shell at a time) then a sidesaddle/bandolier setup might work better than shotshell caddies. Dan Sierpina
I've never had a round fall out of the Choate carriers with the velcro installed. That's with leaveing 2 shells in the carrier after a 4 shell grab. I don't run very fast though.

Yes that is what I have been doing with a dump pouch and is what I plan on doing with shotshell carriers...... Would prefer a belted option for that very reason. Lange22250
I use 4 rnd Choate or CCW caddies on my belt, and can fit 6 with my other 3 gun gear. along with a side saddle that's more than enough for most small matches. For high round count matches like MGM I took a molle chest rig and cut off most of the extra then mounted 5 6 rnd caddies and a 20 rnd elastic loop panel. that helps to keep the shot, slugs and buck separate. larry weeks
I use Mark Otto's velcro "vest" (chest plate) with 4, 6rd California comp works on it. When I needed more at Ozark I borrowed two of the AP Custom 4x4 holders. Liked them alot. Mark Otto also makes 4 and 6 round holders that are lightened aluminum with the big flat spring. Nice units. See the Otto stuff at Benny Hills web site - Triangle Shooting Sports.
pjb45
Since I run a Safariland belt, it was incredible easy just to order from them with the els attached.
