Sights on airsoft gun

I realize there are about a thousand airsoft topics, but I didn't find my answer in any of the dozens topics I looked through.

I'm considering jumping into the airsoft craze for IPSC/IDPA training, as well as for the possibility of inexpensive force on force training.

I'm wondering has anyone installed real sights onto an airsoft gun? Do they actually have a rear dovetail like a real Glock, or are they just molded / machined to the slide? I would like to keep any training gun as close to my duty gun as possible (G17 with 10-8 sights).

Thanks!

The blow-back housing (in 1911-type guns) usually gets in the way of having a true rear dovetail, will try to check if it's also true with the glocks. But a good smith can fab a custom rear sight for you out of aluminum...if you know him that well (takes a lot of work to do so since the sight needs to mate properly with the top the of the blow-back housing.)

Had a custom-made racker for my gun but used the bomar-type mount:

Of the glocks I have looked at, the rear sight looks like a dove tail, but it is not, the front sight is scred into the slide with a philips head screw.

I understand the (theoretical) advantages to having the sights on your Airsoft and the sights on your real gun be exactly the same. But in reality (at least MY reality :D) I find that shooting with the stock Airsoft sights (which are invariably less visible than what's I have installed on my match/carry piece) works well. Practicing with less visible sights, then switching over to more visible sights on the real gun, you feel like you just can't NOT see them.

I recently bought an HFC airsoft that is a 1:1 scale of my Glock 17. The sites are pretty close to the factory sights, the weight is also pretty close. I think this is a great practice gun because it is so much like my real gun in size and weight but other things to consider is that the trigger pull is light, although the trigger reset is pretty similar, and the blow back does not simulate the recoil of a 9MM. I bought the LP conversion kit so I can shoot it cheap. It will dent or go thru card board at 50 ft.
