Dillon 9mm Taper Crimp Die

I just received a Dillon Taper Crimp die (9mm) which I ordered thru BE. However, it didn't have any instructions with it-is this typical of Dillon? I also checked their website under Technical-still no instructions. I guess I have to buy the entire set to get the instructions. Anyway can anyone please provide me the instructions for installing this die? Thanks in advance.

Quickest way is to put a loaded round in the shellplate, run the ram down, and then screw down the crimp die until it "hits" or stops on the loaded round.

Your best way to adjust it is by using a dial caliper to measure the outer diameter of the case once it has been "crimped". Remember that with the taper crimp die you are only removing the bell from the powder die and making sure there are no sharp edges to catch when the round is chambering. A general number for crimp is around .378, but it varies from cases and bullets. A case gauge or barrel is really helpful here, as you can, with the 9x19, keep checking the crimp with the gauge/barrel and add crimp until the round fits smoothly. More crimp will not necessarily help your accuracy, and may hurt it.

Good luck,

DougC

Thanks for your speedy reply! Just a follow-up question? I have a Lee Loadmaster. What are the instructions for screwing the die into the turret? Screw it in until it touches the raised shellplate? Thanks

I use a loaded round in the shell holder. Raise it to the top. Screw the taper crimp die down until it just stops. Finger tighten lock ring. Slight adjustments up or down may be required for your final setting. Use your calipers until you achieve ~.378 then case gauge it.

Thanks, that got it. The Dillon die is a little different than the Lee Factory crimp die as the Lee die has a crimper that screws in and out of the die whereas with the Dillon die, the crimper has a clip on it to secure it in the die.
