markwilliston
Last practice I saw some movement on the front sight, stopped to see what was wrong and here's what I have: I had it installed by a gunsmith 2 months ago, shot around 2000 rounds since. I really like the sight, and don't want to be replacing them all the time. Suggestions? No it hasn't been smacked in ports or used as a hammer
Pat Miles
As the crack runs up from the front of the dovetail cut I would suggest that you see if there is any clearance between the bottom of the front sight and the slide. If there is none and the sight has to be driven over the slide with an interference fit you might file a bit on the bottom sight so there is a bit of clearance. Is the sight a name brand made of good material? CYa, Pat
G-ManBart
That's just a bad installation...nothing wrong with the sight. Normally you only remove material from one side of the dovetail, but it may have needed to have a little taken off the bottom near the front. I'd take it back and get the smith to replace it. markwilliston
It is a name brand sight, I have not had the gun back to the gunsmith since it broke.
HSMITH
Fit it right and it should last basically forever. Have it pinned right away too this time and you won't have any issues.
mike cyrwus
+1 on the install. Nothing wrong with the dawson; your smith stressed it when he knocked it in. Its obvious to see that either he removed too much from the bottom of the sight, and/or not enough top of the slide/sight clearance.
Julien Boit
I had one Dawson front sight break at the back, but the same manner. It was free of contact with the barrel of my SV sight tracker, so no stress involved here.
