bbbean
Spent the day doing "career day" at the local school, and had some free time during lunch to check the markets, email, etc. Thought I'd check in on Enos.com and found that the site was blocked for weapons and violence. Same story with USPSA.org. Interestingly, the IDPA site and the local (Jonesboro) club sites weren't blocked. Idiotic software - my wife (an art teacher) has the same problem all the time looking up art sites.
scirocco38s
Welcome to big brother deciding what you can and cannot visit on their network. They decide what is and isnt offensive and what is morally correct.
edwin garcia
I had the same issue with Panera Bread. I emailed the sysadmin and toldthe enos.com is a forum and not offensive in nature. They surprisingly unblocked it. Must be one of the exceptions.
Anubis
Yeah USAFE blocked enos.com as well for it falling under the category of 'firearms'. How silly of me to think it would be ok for military members to look at websites involving firearms.....
DarthMuffin
Another way to approach getting this unblocked is to ask the filter company to recategorize it. You should get a "blocked by websense" or some other software name. Go to their site and they usually have a way you can submit miscategorized URLs. This won't be instant, it'll take a few days or weeks for them to add it and for your local company to download the updated database. I'm the firewall admin at my company, and the filter companies aren't perfect. There are a LOT of web sites out there and they can't get them all perfectly. Adam B
As a tech director for a large school district here in michigan I can explain to you why everything "fun" gets block. The filtering system itself is primarily keyword based, it also also works in conjunction with a black list of sites that are inappropriate and the local administrator also can add and remove sites from that list as well. In schools it is really difficult to manage the acceptable sites and unacceptable sites; art and sex ed are two area that come to mind that are very difficult to keep unblocked.
