werewolf45auto
I tried searching this out and saw one other said to have problems and another replyed he didn't. I just got some new DP basepads and they won't seat in the gun on my STI 140 mags with my SV magwell. My SPS tubes will(there a little longer). Is this something you all know about and I'm late. Do I have to get the DP well to use the DP pads ? Thanks
yoshidaex
depending if the SV magwell has enough material, you could modify the magwell so the basepads fit or you could modify the basepads to fit the magwell but modifying 4 or 5 basepads will probably get old quick. on top of that any new basepad you get you'll have to modify to fit the magwell. me personally, I would just sell the SV magwell and buy a DP magwell and be done with it. werewolf45auto
Yeah I don't want to modify the basepads for the above resons. I could probably modify the well but I hate to incase it does not work and then I have a junk well. I had an ICE on my Para and really didn't like the insert. I would like to here what magwell and basepad combos people are heving good luck with. Also I like the smaller footprint of the SV. Thanks

yoshidaex
i have a STI magwell and it works fine with 140mm STI and SV tubes. I'm wondering if the mags you have are pre-ban units that were slightly shorter. Pre bans were 5 1/8" and post bans are 5 3/8" (according to dawsons catalog page 25 catalog 46) I recall a post here a while back that had pictures of various STI and SV mags. They showed pre ban and post ban mags side by side. My search-fu is weak. someone help please. TIA If you do have the pre bans and you're using +1 pads its possible you won't get enough clearance to seat the mag. With the post bans and +1 you should have no problems (this is the combination i have. Though i'm not sure if the STI magwell I have is stock since I bought it used). if you do have pre ban mag tubes, i think you can use the +2 dawson basepads and all should be fine but i don't think they discontinued the +2 basepads for STI/SV Also you can stick just the mag tube in and see how far the tube goes in and determine how much grinding on the magwell you will need to do to make things fit up properly. before you go hacking away at stuff make sure you measure everything up and you're certain its required. werewolf45auto
Cool, I remember that section with the ruler in DP catalog. I'll see what mine are. Good idea on checking to see how much I'll have to remove. I would have just marked it and started taking material until it fit. I think I'll mark the tube were the top of the pad is and then insert the striped tube to how much needs removing. The SV does not have tones of material to remove before I would think it would not be a functional. I'll post an update in a bit. Thanks
werewolf45auto
It's 5 3/8". I stuck it in the gun without the base and I think would have to remove more than I wan't to. I think I'll order the STI magwell and see how that fits and feel.
born-in-45
Another possiblity is a Brazos Big Mouth magwell (www.brazoscustom.com). It works fine with DP pads. Has a smaller, tighter feel than the DP Ice magwell.
MoNsTeR
I had to do some serious grinding on my SV magwell to fit the newer Dawson pads (I also had two earlier units that fit just fine). Not a huge deal though as long as you have a dremel or other suitable tool.
