With SVI mags, you can run longer oal's. With the STI mags you're gonna need spacers so the bullets engage the ribs on the side properly on the way up. I have STI mags with stainless spacers which were tuned by Howard. At 1.16 oal, they run perfect. Any longer and they tend to have those mysterious jams once in a while. I've got SVI mags but haven't bothered finding the ideal length oal bullets for those mags.

I'm at 1.18 to 1.20 with SV mags ... no problems, no spacers. (HS-6 also). NOTE: My "barrel" is throated!!, you MUST have at least .003 clearence / LOT's of pressure. I'd say my biggest problem is keeping track of the brass...., (I get all kinds of brass back, lot's of it is not mine... STAY away from S&B brass... (does't matter if it's brass plated or real brass..., pitch it).

that is pretty long, you need to make sure your barrel is cut that deep, i go no longer then 1.160 it will also depend on bullet overall length i.e 115 vs 125 i think the 115's would be shorter,,you might want to use what has worked for you before chrono and experiment with charge weight and length. i just went thru this and settled on shorter due to function.

1.170" OAL w/115 JHP's, 1.185" OAL w/115 FMJ's (MT Gold FMJ's run 0.012"-0.015" longer than JHP's - keeps ogive and base of bullet in same place).

Both run flawlessly for me in unmodified SVI's and STI's w/spacers.
