Sarge
Some findings from my first chrono tests with the PRO and TG. I am looking for any advice or comments so please feel free. M&P PRO 5" Pro chrono digital Tite Group MG bullets WSP Mixed military brass Temp around 65 and sunny. For starters my pistol seems to need more TG than many have posted. With MG 124 CMJ's 4.0 TG got me 129+ PF. Does that seem pretty close to what should be expected? Is 129 enough buffer for minor? With 147 MG CMJ's my gun seemed to stray from what I expected based on posts of other shooters. 3.2 TG, which seems to be a popular load, made less than 120 PF in my gun, with 3.4 only averaging mid 127's PF. I will need to run 3.5 to be safe? But I must say that 3.2 load with an 11lb spring was scary soft. WOW! No wonder. Other notes of interest: The lower I went in charges seemed like my velocities started to spread out more. Is this common? My 4.0 loads were all pretty close but the 3.2 were spread out more. All loads worked with the stock spring setup but a 13lb spring was a littler smoother. Thanks in advance for any comments or pointers.
Joe D
How long are you loading your bullets? Back when I used TG in my wife's G34 3.2 with a 147 plated averaged 865 fps. OAL was 1.140".

Lighter loads do not burn as consistently because they are not developing the pressure and "heat" the powder is formulated for. I have found Ball process powders to be worse than flake or extruded on that. From some shooting I have done with .45 Minor, it is hard to beat dirty old Bullseye for light loads. Clays and Solo 1000 are the best of the "clean" powders in loads below 90% of maximum.

The MG's will be slower compared to plated shot out of the same gun with the same charge weight. You are comparing two completely different guns and two completely different bullets. Edit to add: Find your own charge weight to make PF for your gun. BK Edited April 25, 2009 by bkeeler

Also Glock barrels tend to be on the fast side. Another thing is that lots of folks listing data for 9mm 147s are using JHPs which will take up more case volume at the same OAL as the CMJs....that increases the pressure and velocity. To be safe I'd want no less than 130PF...especially if you're going to make some bigger matches. I've said this many times in the past 9mos or so, but my 38SC load went three major matches in a row last year with a PF of 171-174 (a high 171.something to a low 174.something) and the exact same batch (loaded a bunch all at one time) went 166.1PF at Nationals! So, with that in mind my 9mm load for the M&P Pro is going to be 135PF....no noticable difference between that and 130PF. R,
MemphisMechanic
Remember that most of us posting Production data are shooting Glocks. Our barrels are faster. 9mm 1911s, XDs, and M&Ps will usually require an extra .2 or .3 grains to get equivalent velocity out of the exact same load. Don't worry about it. Then there's a difference from pistol to pistol. My 147gr Moly load is 129pf from my Glock 34, but 125.5 when shot through a buddies 34. Same day, same chrono, exact same batch of ammo. If it makes PF in your pistol, you're good. And I wouldn't tweak that load. Just throw 4.0 in 'em from now on, and spot check with the chrono every few weeks.
