lugnut
Ok, I've build up several loads with my Berrys 158gr bullets. I'm at 1.500" COL and up to 4.6gr 231 and I'm still quite a bit under the PF I need. The loads still feel very light and I've noticed lots of folks on this forum seem to get 125PF with much less 231 powder! I'm at an average of about 725 ft/sec still. Is anyone using a shorter COL? More powder? I have other powders but I'd like to use up the 231 I have.
mwx40x40
I know this is not the answer you were looking for , but I too had the same experience with Berry's 158 plated bullets. I needed a +P load of 231 to make power out of my 4" L Frame. However with cast 158 RNL I can easily make minor with normal pressure 231 loads. Personally I have left the mysteries of getting plated bullets to perform and either shoot lead or fmj.
Tom E
I'm using 3.9 gr of Solo 1000 under Precision Bullets 147's sized .358, 1.250 oal (.38 special brass trimmed to .900"), Fed 100. 130 PF in a 4" 627 Pro.
kframe_mike
Yup,I had issues making Minor within standard pressure with those bullets as well.Try backing off your charge of 231 to 4.5 grs and shorten your OAL to 1.45 and see what happens.I see that your using an L frame,so if that doesn't work, just keep adding a couple of tenths at a time until they make it.Thats about all I can tell you.-Mike
