Mo Hepworth
I have been faithfully using 147gr Speer plated out of my stock2 for about 2 years. I have been having difficulties getting 147gr ammo out of my ammunition producer,..but 124gr fmj at about 134pf is available. Anyone have preference and care to explain why?? thanks for your opinions.
Jody Waring
Mo, you know I don't shoot alot of iron sighted guns, but for me I prefer the crisp cycling and the sharper recoil impulse the lighter bullet ammo gives me. Mind you there are guys that have played around with lots of different loads and have 9mm guns that don't F'ing move with 147's. I tried a few different combinations a few years ago with heavier bullets, but it just felt weird to me. I have a 9mm gun that is pretty sweet with 124/5's. It's whatever you are used to, and what feels the best, like most of all the other equipment we use. See you soon!
Mo Hepworth
thanks Jody,..I really like my 147gr ammo,...but I must concede that 124gr is easier to get,..especially in remanufactured ammunition. This has been the fad as of late in Production,..however...I would be curious as to how 124gr would work out for me. The 147gr works great in my tanfoglio stock2,..I used to use 124gr ammo in my HK USP,..but changed over to 147gr as it felt less flippy. I have enough on hand to last to the Nationals,..but after that I will probably switch to 124gr ammo. My new HK P30-L likes the 147gr,..even the hotter Federal Hydrashok! It is practically shooting bullseye quality with 147gr,.. ,...
Jody Waring
Just maybe segregate your 147 stuff for bigger matches to stretch out your supply. If 147 is what you really like the best, that's definitely the one to stick with if you can keep getting it, especially where you have experimented with the lighter bullets before. Maybe sometime I will pick some up and experiment again. It really does seem the more popular weight for 9mm in our game.
workingman
A lot of 9mm shooters like the 147 for one reason...poppers. I know this is not the best approach, but many shooters like to hear the hit on the steel and you won't with 115 or 124.
BundyBear
I run 125gr through my open gun and also my metalic sight gun. I like the fast / snappy recoil of my metalic sight gun, it recovers really well after each shot and my open is real sweet to use.
slickrick
As a side question, what weight recoil spring would be best for your loads? minor pf 9mm.
R.Elliott
Hey mo: A 147 grain bullet is in the works.....
Jody Waring
As far as spring weight, in one of my CZ's I have a Sprinco rod and it works fine with the supplied spring, not sure on the weight, but my others will work with 10-12lb springs, and have used much lighter. Many 9mm guns I believe are oversprung from the factory. My 9mm ammo is loaded to just slightly more than 130PF.
Mo Hepworth
Hey mo:A 147 grain bullet is in the works..... I got a goodly supply of 147gr ammo in of the Combat masters bdx I usually use,....I tried some 124gr,...about the same PF,..but I find the 124gr a little flippy,..it screws with my timing. wkj4567
I use 147 grain subsonic ammo in a G34 with a 14lb Wolff recoil spring. It shoots very soft. I tried it in a 1911 9mm with at 9lb Wolff recoil spring and it worked but the cycling felt sluggish. I prefer the 115 grain in the heavier gun, cycles faster and becuase of the weight, there's not a big difference in recoil.
