Mister Joshua
I just got my 9mm shellplate and dies in. Since I started with plated bullets with Power Pistol in .45 ACP, I decided to do the same with 9mm. I noticed after seeing how much of the case is filled by 6 grains (starting load for FMJ), that this would probably be a compressed load... even loading "relatively" long at 1.121 I loaded up 15 to shoot next monday. Depending on what you guys tell me about the load I might load a few more. What dangers (if any) are present if Alliant's load data is accurate, *and* it ends up being a compressed load? I plan on loading no more than 5% under max FMJ load due to using the plated bullet... which would be 6.3gr when all is said and done. Finally, does anyone have some good recipes for 9mm in WST, Titegroup, Power Pistol, or Clays? (Can't you tell I've been loading .45? )
aztecdriver
Hey Joshua, I'm loading with power pistol, and think I've got a fairly descent load dialed in, but I'm not using 115gr. Currently, I'm running 4.3 gr of power pistol with 147gr Montana Gold loaded to 1.140. I am using remington 5 1/2s, yes I know they are magnum primers but I loaded up a set by mistake working this up and they ran well, so I left it alone. Chrono'd at area 6 at 912fps for a 134pf, so I'm thinking of backing it down .1. I had previously chrono'd 4.2gr at 129pf. This was out of a glock 34. I'm on the road, so I don't have my load data books with me, but I'm sure I chose power pistol over my other powders because of the headroom it gave me before reaching a max load. I don't run 115s mainly because you have to hit 1087 fps to make minor USPSA which makes it 1130fps to make 130pf for cushion and they just seemed way too snappy compared to what the 147gr could deliver. And FWIW, I've heard Clays a little on the hot side in 9mm compared to the other choices, but I'll let others with more experience with Clays tell you with definition. winter5470
I have used 4.2 grains of titegroup under a 115 grain CMJ from Montana Gold. It made minor power factor. (If you want the chrono data email me privately and I can look it up when I get home). OAL was 1.155 for my glock 19.
Flexmoney
Love the name. Welcome to the forum. Mr. Joshua By the way...we have a dedicated 9mm reloading area...down in the main reloading forums. Getting into recipes is probably beyond the BEginner's Forum. (give it a search down there....LOTS of info already posted.)
Dan Hefta
I used Power Pistol for a couple years MG 115 gr bullet, 5.6 gr PP powder, consistant 130 PF. I recently switched to universal Clays same bullet 3.9 gr, a lot softer shooting load in my opinion. I shoot a Glock 34.
