ALF
I have looked at the new SVI metal grips for a while, and although they seem to be of very high quality, are they priced accordingly. I have given some thought of getting one for my limited SVI in 40 S&W. The question is are the grips worth the money? al503
There is a pretty large thread on this already. As far as I know, you have to ship your pistol (or at least your frame) and have the guys at SV fit the grip for you. Since you're overseas, that may make it a lot tougher for you. From what I understand are the help of a gunsmith needed in order to fit the grip. As SVI´s are sold where I live and gunsmithing services are also available, am I pretty sure that the fitting of the grip can be done locally. dr2e
type in "svi grips" into the search function and you will see MANY discussions regarding the new grip. you will probably get an answer to your question faster by doing this then by waiting for any possible responses. That there are many discussions about the grips is true .But most seem to be about the price how they feel and so forth. What I am looking for is input from someone that have actually used them. shootingchef
I've had mine for a month and 1,000 rounds. I love it. The weight is in your hands, not on the barrel. The grip is more ergonomic for my hand, I have yet to peel my knuckle with a high grip. the pistol is heavy, mine weighs in at 54.5 ounces. I have little felt recoil with 171 PF. tomface
I have one set up for open, 38, and Docter sight mounted to the slide. I like the extra weight in the hand, and the shape and size of the grip. The version I have uses grip tape, which is nicely inlaid to the grip. The grip is very positive, no slipping in the hand. It is a lot of money, but it does deliver on quality. I am happy with mine so far, about 2,000 rounds through it. Has it made me a better shooter? No. You still have to look at that red thingy in the window!
ALF
It seems to me that the grips are worth it after all. I would like to thank those who wrote about their experinces with the SVI grips. Whats next then? Well I will order one grip for my limited gun of course. waxman
So those that have them, was gunsmithing required, or were they a slide swap fit?
tomface
So those that have them, was gunsmithing required, or were they a slide swap fit? There could be some minor fitting involved. A gunsmith can handle it in a few minutes.

Whats next then? Well I will order one grip for my limited gun of course. I wouldn't say that. I've handled a number of them and they don't feel nearly as good in my hand as grips I shape and stipple to my taste. No way I'm paying $400 more for something that doesn't feel as good. My grips fit my hand like a glove. The metal grips feel better than a stock grip, but still nothing like the way I want them to feel. If I want, I can move an extra bit of weight down low through a number of ways (steel MS housing for one) and get the same weight and balance as you can with the new grip. It's essentially adds 10-20% increase in price to the gun and no way it adds that much shootability, if any. R,
