recon215
Looking for load data for 62gr AR bullets. Would like to get 3025fps out of a 20" barrel using AA2230 if possible. I have searched here and online, most don't even list a 62gr bullet load in their manuals. Thanks, Steve
bigbrowndog
I tried 2230 and 2460 and couldn't get the velocity I wanted but 2520 worked just fine. I think the load is 25.5grs, it worked well with 62rem mhp, and 60gr nosler BT. Velocity was right at 3000. trapr
recon215
Thanks Trapr! Not good news, since I have 10lbs of 2230 here... Garrett
I was just shooting some loads over the chrono yesterday using a 62 gr. bullet and 2230-C. The jug says it's slightly slower than 2230, but to use the same data. I'm not sure if you'll get the velocity you're looking for. My Speer manual lists a max load of 24.0 gr. with a 62 gr. bullet, and Sierra has a max of 24.9 gr. with a 63 gr. bullet. I was shooting a 11.5" gun with a 1:7 twist and a 16" gun with a 1:9 twist. Both using 24.5 gr. of powder. My 20" barrel probably has too slow of a twist for that bullet, so I didn't chrono through that one. 16" - ave. 2795 fps. 11.5" - ave. 2538 fps. I picked up just over 250 fps. with the 5.5" longer barrel. You could probably get pretty close with a 20" barrel.
