Pat Miles
The situation is the same here in Albuquerque. I've been trying to find 22 ammo at my neighborhood WM. As usual none. Drove to another WM and lo and behold, two bricks @$13.59 each. While I was waiting to be rang up I noticed a cute little rifle in their display case. A 22 caliber single shot Cricket with a bright pink stock. I have a 2 1/2 year old granddaughter who now has a pink Cricket. She won't be shooting it for a couple of years and I figured that pink rifles might be outlawed sometime in the future so I couldn't resist. My daughter-in-law called later this afternoon so I told her about the rifle. "COOL, I can't wait to see it"! Just a great daughter-in-law. On a seperate issue I had to deal with two older ladies and a store manager (man) during the purchase. All three of these folks had to handle the rifle to do their job. I was astounded to see each one handle the gun in an absolutely safe manner. Several other customers were at the counter during my purchase and the gun was never pointed at anybody. The box that the gun came in was rotated on the counter when one of the ladies was putting it into the box as a customer walked up to the counter in front of the box.I have to say that this safer than I have seen guns handled by employees of some of the gun shops in town. Needless to say I was impressed. CYa, Pat
The_Vigilante
Easter Sunday I ate an early breakfast at Cracker Barrel and since it is close to a neighborhood Wal-Mart decided to see what was available. Seems as if they had just received a shipment as everything was still in the original boxes behind the counter. Had WWB 100-ct boxes of 9mm, .40, and .45 ACP as well as the 550-ct box of Remington Gold .22. I wasn't greedy-got 1 box of each and alerted the members of the local IDPA club. By 1:30 PM another member reported only 9 boxes of 9mm left. It does seem curious that the Wal-Marts in Vegas don't have any-do they claim they aren't getting any? Maybe you need to get down there early-7AM to get anything. On another subject why aren't primers showing up in retail? Have the manufacturer's stopped making them? Are they being held up somewhere in the distribution channel? I can understand if there are short periods where they aren't available but if the manufacturer's are manufacturing them on a continuous basis, why aren't they showing up? It really sucks.
The_Vigilante
Then you are forgiven. Nice of you to sell some of it at cost to your buddies who didn't have any.

SiG Lady
The shelves have been bare HERE for MONTHS!! I've given up looking and am ordering reloads from a friend of mine just outside of town... who, in turn, is waiting for shipments of primers and other stuff to reload WITH. It's ridiculous. And a little scary.
John2A
My Local WM has ammo until about 8:30 AM on M-W-F at least that is what the guy behind the counter told me. They are getting in 6-8 cases each of these days and it is ALL gone by 8:30 AM. He said they start putting it out at 7:00 AM and in an 1/2 hour it is gone. So I guess I will try and get there early tomorrow and see if I can't snag a box or two.

Leozinho
The shelves have been bare HERE for MONTHS!! I've given up looking and am ordering reloads from a friend of mine just outside of town... who, in turn, is waiting for shipments of primers and other stuff to reload WITH. It's ridiculous. And a little scary. I don't think it's scary that there's a shortage. (I do find it more than a little odd that people are hoarding to such extremes, though, which may be what you were refering to.) It could be a good thing in the mid to long term. My economic studies from long ago tell me that ammo makers must be at 100 percent production and still trying to add production capacity. And since most of the ammo that's being snatched up isn't being shot, it would seem like the stage is being set for a classic glut. I just don't see how ammo sales can be banned, which would be the main reason to hoard ammo, in my opinion. I've seen a salesman for Black Hills write about how they are trying to ramp up production capacity. The only problem is how to do it without lowering quality. But they'll get there. (Of course, if the ammo makers expect some sort of draconian change in law, they may choose not to add production capacity.) Of course, sometimes shortages and hoarding don't make sense. I was in Argentina last year and they have a shortage of coins that no one can really explain. Shopkeepers would round down to the nearest dollar so they wouldn't have to give you precious change. Or they'd just refuse to sell you a small item if you tried to pay with a paper bill. You need coins to ride the buses, so the coin shortage is a big hassle. ironb
it's the whole "obama" thing still...he's backed off of some of his "gun ideas" but people are still thinking there will be some type of tax or other reason that ammo is going to be scarce. yeah, it'll stop eventually when people realize they are being goofy. 50 round packs at wally world of 9mm used to $7/box. we need that pricing back and for it to be in stock. it would be nice just to buy a few boxes before hitting the range or a match and not worrying about "where am I gunna get my next box of 9mm!" i bought some 380 by accident at walmart. it's been sitting in my closet for a few months. i think I paid $20 or $25 for the box of 100 winchester. the same box is being sold on gunbroker for $85!!! Are you kidding me? anyhow, i sold it to a local guy for $110 for both boxes I had. it'll pay for the $25 boxes of 9mm I have to buy now!

At some point every possible shooter is going to have 50K primers, 100K cartridges and 50K bullets and realize they have more than a lifetime's worth of supplies... that along with too many guns. The dealers are going to get crushed after this frenzie dies down.
