Bubber
Looking at some 627PC's 5" What are the majorreasons I should look at one over the other? Rolex, Let's see if I can answer this before my connections goes out again. Price would be the determining factor. I paid about $1000.00 for my 38 super 8 shot. They now are in the 14 to 15 hundred dollar range. I have seen the 357 8 shots in the 7 to 8 hundred dollar range. You can get the benefit of the super length by using short colt or long colts. If you feel froggy you can cut down the 38 specials to 38 super length . I do like my 38 super and would not even consider selling it. If you go the 357 route get the one that already has been cut for moonclips.
Rolex
Bubber- Thanks- I realy dont see any big advantage to either of these rounds. 38 spl. should be a good to go to round?
Tom E
Bubber- Thanks- I realy dont see any big advantage to eitherof these rounds. 38 spl. should be a good to go to round? 38 super is fine but the 38 super guns go for a lot more $ than the 38/357 guns. Intel6
I use .38's in my 627 all the time and for general shooting they are fine. I think the short Colts are used only for competition because they are shorter and make for an easier reload. I have never shot mine in competition so I have just always used .38's. scottyinAZ
depending on what you are loading on, the 38 specials can accidentaly be double or tripple charged without knowing, the supers will spill out if overcharged. a little side bonus of the super. or you could use 38 short colt in the 357/38 spec. and have the advantage of the short case. half dozen of one or 6 of another. you can get there with either one. i load 38 super and 38 short colt now and they both load fantastic. Peakbagr
.38 Short Colt. Sound like an interesting round. Can't find brass or loads for the cartridge, though. Thanks
TonyT
Unless you have a plentiful supply of cheap 38 Special brass I would opt for the 38 Super - apparently a new run will be made in the nearv future. One cannot detect a double charge or the absence of a charge (unless using Trail Boss powder) in a 38 Special case. With the 38 Super case one can readilly ascertain the absence of a powder charge and a double charge would overflow the case with most powders. I wish that I had not sold my 627 in 38 Super.
