el pres
I heard today that certain Remy 870 pumps are not legal to sell in Kali ?? All I was told was "riot gun" but specifics were not mentioned, pistol grip, cutoff stock, etc.. Shed some light please (which law)?? Approved shotgun list ?? warpspeed
Pump action shotguns are not restricted by make or model. Not yet anyway. however, California PC 12020(a) says something like the barrel cannot be less than 18" long and the overall length cannot be less than 26" long. If it has a folding or collapsable stock that measurement must be made with stock folded or collapsed. But, I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on the radio and this is not legal advice. It is simply how I have read the law. If they would like to read more peoples non-legal interpretation send them to calguns.net. lots o good stuff. elenius
The length restrictions are federal, not CA-specific. You can't have both a folding or telescoping stock and a pistol grip. You also can't have detachable mags, but that's not an issue for 870s.

sargenv
You can't have both a folding or telescoping stock and a pistol grip. Um.. I thought you could do about anything you wanted to an 870 as long as the federal requirements of 18" bbl and 26" overall is maintained. I've seen the tacticool 870 from H*ll that had all the evil features that would get you in trouble with a semi-auto that are completely legal in a manual slide actionlike the 870 is. Pump shotguns are not as yet as heavily regulated as the semi-auto brethren.. at least AFAIK..

(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following: * (a) A folding or telescoping stock. * ( A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip. (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine. (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder. So, for a pump, make sure you have: Total length over 26" Barrel length over 18" No revolving cylinder All other features are good to go, including detachable mags, folding stocks, no stocks etc etc. Edited April 10, 2009 by gose
