waxman
Finally after a long search I received my new SV 140mm 40 mag. I was very happy to see it, until i took it out of the package. The basepad litterally slides right off. Are you serious? $100 for a mag that you cant even use without changing the pad? I immediately put my Bolens parts in it just to check capacity. It is 20 reloadable which is ok, good but not great. My biggest problem is with this POS plastic hocky puck on the bottom of it. Is this right? al503
The basepad should have a hole in the middle of it. There should be a floor plate that slides underneath the mags shoulders with a little knob that will seat in the hole of the basepad and keep it from sliding off. (At least that's what mine look like.) I usually just buy the tubes if possible as I don't use the stock basepad and guts anyway.
waxman
No floor plate, no hole in the pad, just a big piece of plastic that slides on and off.
al503
I must have different ones. Mine are aluminum and are as described above. Is there enough friction and/or force from the spring to keep the basepads in place? Edited April 9, 2009 by al503

Is there enough friction and/or force from the spring to keep the basepads in place? Nope, it just slides right off. You absolutely could not use this in a match. I could not even practice with it. I tried to do a few mag changes with it, and when I picked it off the ground the pad was halfway off the mag, just from hitting the ground. Must be the new latest and greatest design from sv to save a few$

al503
Looks like SV has plastic and aluminum basepads available according to their website.
shootingchef
when I picked up my new SV mags, they had the same generic base pad. I figure since everyone changes them out anyway, that's just a part to keep the spring in place till you get what you want, I put Bolen's base pads on. They do have some billet machined base pads, but they are extra $.

How about I give you a sweat deal on a disposible mag spring retainer. I think shootingchef hit it right on the head. Had I know this, I would have just bought the tube.
