Russ,

Welcome to the forum! For learning about USPSA and some of the others, you could not have picked a better site. If you will, go back up one time, and look at a thread about 4-5 spots below yours titled "Tips for Newbies". You'll find all sorts of good information in there. When you've finished that, you'll probably still have questions, but a lot of them will be answered. At that point, ask away, and you'll get plenty of good answers here.

Welcome to the forum! There is a wealth of good information here. Just be careful, shooting USPSA is addictive :roflol:

Find a club and ask if you can shoot some of the members guns, most people will be more than glad to accomodate you. You can try different guns that fit different divisions and then maybe you will have an idea of which direction you want to go.

Welcome. First thing you may want to do is find a club and go to a match and watch. Don't be suprised if someone offers to loan you a rig so you can shoot the match. And don't assume they are just being polite and weren't serious about really letting you use their stuff even though you may have never met them before. You will get more advice than you can use and will make lots of new friends and will go home with a smile on your face. Ask lots of questions. Use the search function on this site because someone has probably asked a question about something you are thinking about already. That way you will have an answer right away without waiting for people to respond. If you can't find an answer on the search function someone here will be able to answer your question or at the very least give you a really technical line of bullshinola that will sound cool. Join USPSA and read the rule book multiple times. Somethings wont make sense until you see them on a course. Thats why you should go over the book a few times. Have fun. :D

Welcome Russ. I was in your shoe's about a year ago, you have come to the right place for answers.

+1 to that. If you haven't already shot a match do a club search on www.uspsa.org. You'll probably find a local club within an hour or so of where you are. Most clubs post a schedule of upcoming events you can attend. Like the guys said, someone will probably offer to let you try their gun. Being a lefty myself, I usually keep a matching right handed spare rig in the event someone wants to give it a try.
