bbbean
Tried out my new steel plates today, but didn't take into account the wind when I repainted targets. As a result, my nice new ionbonded Limited gun now has a fine mist of white paint on one side and the top of the slide. If I use nail polish remover, paint thinner, gas, or kerosene to remove the paint, will the solvent damage the ionbond?
ChrisMcCracken
You should talk to Ryan Flynn. All I remember is that there is only one good solvent for the ionbond coating. As long as you don't use whatever that solvent was, nothing will affect it. I'll PM you the numbers I have to reach him. -Chris
Loves2Shoot
You can use Iso Alcohol to remove the paint specs.
Joe4d
Hoppes # 9 will most likely remove the spray paint, and I would be pretty sure anything marketed as a gun finish would be immune to Hoppes
bbbean
As it turns out, the good folks at Ionbond told me I could use anything except Hydrogen Peroxide. Acetone, paint thinner, kerosene, etc can be used on ionbond with no harmful effects.

ciscoip
Out of curiosity, what does hydrogen peroxide do? Remove it? Discolor it? Weaken it?
bbbean
Out of curiosity, what does hydrogen peroxide do? Remove it? Discolor it? Weaken it? He didn't say, but he did say you'd have to soak it for it to have any effect.
ogiebb
i wonder if mineral spirits will harm it since its almost the same as paint thinner? its what i always have used in my hard chromed pistols
ChrisMcCracken
H202 is the only way to remove the finish. It takes considerable soaking to have effect as I understand it.
