Shot IDPA indoors last night with the Dallas Action Pistol Shooters. Five stages and 28 shooters. It was a fun match.

I had the fastest raw time but also had two mikes, which I called but the stages were limited and the shots could not be made up. Now I see that my overall speed has improved a bit this year, I'm calling my shots better and my ability to repel shots taken at my mental game by other shooters (you know who you are), is good. A side effect of this is my improved ability to dish it out with great effectiveness.

Also, I've lost 37 lbs this year (50 is goal for 2009), my blood pressure is down and I have more energy. I'm back on the lifecycle and doing some lifting. Lifting has been hampered slightly by tendonitis but I am working on that.

Here's a clip from last night of a fun little drill we shot.

I am really pumped about shooting area 4 and plan to be in the best condition possible, mentally and physically.

I spent some time working on my reload in dryfire practice today. Trying to break the habit of lowering the pistol to the mag instead of bringing the mag to the pistol. I think I'm getting there but want to get it completely ironed out before Area 4. This is probably the least of what I should be concerned about, though.

I've also been picking apart videos of myself shooting and I see many things that need fixing.

1. Crowding walls, barricades, barrels and ports. I am aware of it, conciously think about NOT doing it in my stage planning and yet, there I am in the video sticking my gun through a port.

2. I'm not happy with the hesitation I see when leaving one position for another.

3. When shooting on the move, I move the same speed regardless of the amount of space between targets. For example, 3 targets, 5 yards apart, then a 10 yard gap to the next target. My feet are moving the same speed across the 10 yard gap while not shooting that they were while shooting the targets that were closer together. Like I'm on cruise control. The amount of time I'm wasting is huge. I'm not a track star by any stretch of the imagination but I know I can move faster than I am.

Work has been way off, no jobs for September or October and only 2 on the calender before Christmas. So, I have cut way back on fuel consumption by dry firing at home instead of going to the range several times a week. Been shooting a lot of rimfire ammo to cut down on component consumption. Cooking at home more instead of eating out all the time, etc.

The Area 4 match is probably going to be the last major match I am able to shoot in the foreseeable future so I plan to make the best of it.

A lot has happened since the last post. I had a ball at the Area 4 match. Cold, wet and muddy, but still a ton of fun. Didn't shoot great but definitely learned a lot.

I've continued to shoot local USPSA, IDPA and Steel matches on a fairly regular basis but I have backed off quite a bit. Business is slow so I have to watch my expenses more closely. Between match fees, reloading componets and gasoline, the funds get burned up pretty fast.

My divorce was final a couple of months ago too so now I've got a lot more to keep up with since nobody is helping (OR POLICING).

I've been spending more time coaching other shooters that are highly motivated to improve. Honestly, I'm enjoying that more than pulling the trigger myself. Helping someone help themselves is much more satisfying at this point.

My tendonitis is gone for the most part but my arthritis is worse. Go figure. Shooting major is becoming more and more taxing. I can do it but I pay for it later. So, I've been shooting minor 9mm in IDPA and at plate matches, major in USPSA only (since it actually matters).

I have exceeded my weight loss goal for 09 by 6lbs and still have 6 weeks to go. I just have easily lost 60 by new years as long as I don't go crazy with holiday grub.
