Dennis Sherman
Craig, I had some thoughts on this post of yours,,,,,,,,,,, Dennis ... it's not as restrictive as it could be.The outdoor IDPA Nationals requires (2) Major matches, and USPSA Nationals are much more so as well. We discussed at length a (2) match requirement to be consistent with the outdoor Nationals but finally decided on the (1) match requirement for 2009. The number of low and no light stages in this match add to the level of complexity and difficulty compared to some other outdoor IDPA matches, especially for those new to the sport. We wanted to take all reasonable measures to ensure everyone is well-prepared and the highest levels of safety are maintained. Also, it is a National Championship. We made a number of conscious changes to certain policies and procedures to bring it more in line with that level of competition. Further, we wanted to support all those who have supported the sport over the past year. The (1) Major match requirement allows folks who joined us last year to return. We hope you get more involved in IDPA next season and choose to join us in 2010, Craig Edited December 23, 2008 by Dennis Sherman

Bones
We still have some slots on Thursday. If you haven't signed up yet, take a look at the roster, there may be some folks you wish to shoot with on that day. We've rationalized the squad numbers - but don't panic - no one has been moved or displaced. Hotel and prize info is being finalized - we appreciate everyone's patience. We're obtaining NRA-sanctioning for the match to help our friends driving in from NY and NJ. Once it is approved, we'll post the sanctioning letter so that it can be downloaded and printed. See you soon, Craig PS Don, I'm sure your luminous personality will suffice. Edited January 8, 2009 by Bones
Bones
The latest information about the match - hotel and accommodation info to follow shortly: 1) This is a list of prizes assembled so far, more is continually being added, so watch this forum nd the website for more details: 3 Certificates for Glock Pistols 1 Certificate for a Para pistol 2 Certificates for Walther SP22 M3’s 2 Certificates for Walther PPS 9mm 2) Ammunition restrictions and considerations for the S&W 2009 IDPA Indoor National Championship at the S&W Shooting Sports Center: Smith & Wesson prohibits the use of Wolff Brand ammunition on its ranges. Many Wolff ammunition products contain steel-core bullets that have damaged S&W range equipment and facilities. No Wolff Brand ammunition may be used at the S&W Shooting Sports Center. Violation of this Smith & Wesson policy will result in a match disqualification. Smith & Wesson reserves the right to prohibit the use of any ammunition at any time that, in Smith & Wesson’s sole discretion, damages or has the potential to damage Smith & Wesson’s range equipment and facilities or presents a danger to shooters, staff, or others. Given the significant number of low and no light stages for this match and to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for shooters and staff, the use of jacketed and plated ammunition is strongly recommended. Please consider other shooters and match staff volunteers when making your ammunition component selections. rr4406pak
So the awards banquet will be Saturday night (2/21) in that Hotel correct? Do you know what time Saturday the banquet will be? Just trying to time out things. Thanks!
Bones
Yes, that is the very same place. The delay occurred (thanks to all for their patience) because we were trying to set up the accomodations at the same location - and that became more complex than it should have been. No matter - all is well now. Current best estimates for the awards ceremony indicate a start at 18:00. We are still working on the logistics and timing of the USCG Combat Arms Team Championship match for the cadets, so that may time change by as much an hour either way. Bones
To make traveling easier for many of our competitors, we have recieved NRA Sanctioning for this match. You can download and print a copy of the NRA-approved regsitration form here: http://www.matchreg.com/sw/ We still have openings on Thursday. I'd like to extend a special invitation to IDPA revolver shooters. The last registration data set I saw indicated we were over 40 revolver shooters and well on our way to a setting a new IDPA National match revolver attendance record. When you review the squad listings, remember that the staff and sponsor/reserved squad information is not listed yet. We hope to have that done by the end of next week. You can register and find lots of other useful information at the link above. See you soon, Craig

Bones
Daniel, Yes, AM squads will start at 8:00. A note is going out this week to all registered competitors. We needed to adjust the schedules to accomodate extra shooters, the USCG Cadet match and to give staff time to do the necessary shutdown/clean up work and still make the awards ceremony. Yes, competitors will be able to, and will be encouraged to, register the day before. We expect to have regsitration open until about 17:00 on Thursday and Friday. This information will also be contained in the regsitered competitor note. I look forward to seeing you there, Craig

A few items of note… Please be aware that the S& W Shooting Sports Center has safety policies all competitors must adhere to. You may be used to using designated safety areas at IDPA competitions to bag, unbag and dryfire in safe areas. The S& W Shooting Sports Center has specific safety rules that differ from what you may have experienced at other ranges. Smith & W esson requires that all gun handling must and will be done under the direct supervision an S& W -certified SO. These safety rules prohibit the unsupervised handling of firearms within the facilities before your Shooters Meeting, and prohibit practice draw and dry fire practice before or during the event. Please plan to unbag and holster your firearm on your first stage and to unholster and bag your firearm on your last stage of the day in accordance with these rules. W e have procedures and facilities in place to address typical match events and shooter needs to keep the match running safely and smoothly. Our staff has run several IDPA, ICORE and USPSA matches under these rules and we have an efficient process in place. W e will explain in further detail at the Shooters Meetings and address any questions at that time. W e are contacting you now so that you can plan your match preparation and arrival accordingly to ensure you have a great match experience. Bones
Greetings 2007 S&W IDPA Indoor National Competitors. To clarify a few last minute match preparation items, below are responses to several questions posed over the last few days. 1) Only a hand held flashlight will be permitted for use on flashlight-required stages. A hand held flashlight is one that is held in, on or by your hand. Barring any mechanical malfunctions, you will be required to use the same flashlight and flashlight configuration throughout the entire match. A hand held flashlight will be required to start and stay in variety of positions and conditions during portions of certain stages. You may use your hand held flashlight for flashlight optional stages. 2) You must use the same sight system throughout the match. Sights that are illuminated on one or some stages and not others are not considered the same sight system. Consistent with IDPA HQs position on luminous paints, polymers and sight systems, you will not be permitted to change sight systems nor charge luminous paints or polymers with a flashlight or other energy source during the match. Illuminating sights will not be permitted in the “load and make ready” procedure and you will not be permitted to illuminate any sight system with anything other than ambient lighting conditions while the gun is holstered on your person. A sight system check is part of the Equipment/Chronograph stage and will be performed on at a least one low light and flashlight stage for all competitors. Your sight system must be the same every time it is checked to avoid an FTDR penalty. If your primary firearm breaks, you may use the sight system on your back-up. In summary, the same sight system and flashlight/flashlight configuration must be used throughout the match. I hope this clarifies any ambiguities in previously provided information or interpretations. I regret the length of the description, but recent questions and discussions necessitate this degree of clarity. On a lighter note – the weather forecast indicates it may be sunny (outside) and in the high 60s (inside) for part of the week.
