Kydex Temperature Sensitive?

My Kydex mag pouches seem to shrink & swell during the day with temperature changes. Is this the kydex or the rubber o-rings in the tension adjustment? Or are my tension screws coming loose?

I've noticed this when I start out in a competition early in the morning and as it warms up they loosen up alot.

While I'm on the subject do all mags bind in kydex pouches if you do not pull them up & out strait or is it just mine? I've had on occasion (actually alot  ) where I'm standing there jerking on my mag like its liquid nailed inot my mag pouch its embarrassing :surprise:

I don't think I've had to adjust the tension on mine more than once in several years. I do know that if you have to take a prone position, the o-rings can become depressed and will take a little while to regain their shape. That will make the gear loose.

As far as magazines binding... If your gear has two adjustment points leave the top one loose and only use the bottom one to put tension on the magazine. That way you only have a very short stroke before the magazine is free.

In Montana it would be pretty cold in the morning and then really warm up "IF" the sun came out later. My mags would start out tight fitting and later literally fall out...except of course when I "try" and pull them out fast and twist as I pull and bind them up. :surprise:

I'm just trying to find out if its the o-rings, the kydex or I need to loctite the tension screws. I haven't tried loctite yet b/c I'm afraid I will then find out its the o-ring rubber or kydex and have made a mess of the tension adjustment.

Flex, I'm sorry I don't understand how my belt rigidity would affect this? I use a 5 stitch Wilderness belt.

All info is greatly appreciated.

If you go to pull something off your belt...and your belt can move around...

Your mag pouches need to stay still. When you pull on a mag, the pouch shouldn't move with it.

Who's gear are you using?

I'm shooting a P-35 out of Sparks 55BN or VM II and trying Comp-Tac mag pouches. I've got a Springer on the way and plan on making the full switch to Kydex with that gun. I've used kydex holsters and liked them for draw (not beauty) and have decided to go all Kydexa and stick with it for awhile with the Springer. I don't think the belt is moving as much as I evidently "twist" the mag on draw and leather allows and kydex don't. It is simply amazing to me how well it grabs and binds.

I've never ever had a problem like you've described with Comp-Tac gear (that's all I use) and Texas is famous for 40 degree mornings and 80 degree afternoons this time of year.

Try what I said about making the bottom tension as snug as you need and leaving the top loose.

Edited to add: Thats the mag carriers. For the holster, I like every tension point relatively loose and most of the tension that actually holds the gun on the trigger guard. Try that.
