Limited 10 Magazines

Is it ok to use High Capacity Magazines in the Limited 10 class as long as there are no more than 10 rounds in them? Also, is it ok to begin the match with 10 in the magazine and one in the chamber? How many magazines should I have?

I have para P14-45 and a Kimber Pro-CDP and want to get involved, but also want to keep my entry costs as reasonable as possible. Thanks

Yes.

In most cases, yes. The rules say you can have no more than 10 rounds in your mags at the start signal. Many folks have one mag with 11 rounds they use to load up with (insert, cycle the slide, you now have 10 in the mag and one in the chamber) when given the Make Ready command. But if it's an empty gun starting position, and you insert a magazine with 11 rounds in it after the start signal and then cycle the slide to load, you move over to Open division because one of your mags had 11 in it after the start signal. There aren't too many empty gun starts, but enough that you need to be aware of this.

I go with 4-5 on the belt, one in the gun, and another in my back pocket.

Smart move!

This is not actually true. The rule says you cannot have more than 10 rounds in a magazine at the start of the course of fire. The course of fire does not start with the buzzer it starts with the Make Ready command.

If a shooter gets caught with an 11 round magazine after the make ready command is given he has only two options, shoot in the open class if one is available. or shoot for a zero score.

This is a common misconception that causes no end to ill fillings, however you want to protect those learning.

That is not correct.

The rules actually say that you cannot have more than 10 rounds in the mag after the start signal.

Item #9 in Appendix D3 (for L-10 Division) and Item #9 in App D4 (for Production Division). Even Single Stack Division has a similar restriction based upon the start signal.

So, you can use an 11-rd mag to load as long as that happens before the start signal. Not a good idea when you have an unloaded start.

Nothing like humiliating myself in public. I was relying on 6.2.5.1 and read right over the Appendix D wording.

To my former instructor, I have embarrassed you bwana and beg your forgiveness.

The worse is I gave out some bad information.
