Being LUCKY!

So if you haven't heard, there was a shooting in my home town yesterday. The particulars are sketchy right now, but here's the jist of my end of it.

At the Toys-R-Us in Palm Desert yesterday, the place is a Zoo. They are havine a sale and it is supposed to end at 1:00. I go in with my 2 yr old, and 6 yr old. We cant find what we are looking for, they are all out. I am classically impatient and do not wish to wade through the throngs to reach the exit as it would take about five to ten minutes and I'm not buying anything. I use a ruse to be let out through the entrance and walk out.

We missed the shooting by minutes. In fact it was probably happening as we were driving out of the parking lot. We went hiking right after and the trailhead is just about thre minutes from the store. as I was getting the kids out of the car and putting the youngest into the child carrier, we could hear alot of sirens. As we climbed through 1000 ft and could look over the city, you could see that the commotion was centered around the Toys-R-Us. I thought then that there must be a small fire or something and proceeded to finish the hike.

As we get into the car afterward, I turn on my phone and there are tons of missed calls. My wife has been burning up the lines trying to find out if we're okay. That's when I find out what had happened

I just want to say that I am glad that my usually unccoperative children were for some uncanny reason the image of serenity and calm. They and the lady that let me through the barriers yesterday (believing my white lie) are the reason we were spared involvement in the tragedy.

I woke up and said a prayer this morning, and kissed them while they slept.
