Erik T
Hi folks, I'm trying some .40 170 gr Precision bullets and was wondering if the following setup will be OK for a starting load: 4.8 grains Universal 1.140 OAL Winchester small pistol primers R-P Brass. Any ideas as to what kind of performance I can expect? The bullets will be used for target practice in a Springfield XDM, 4.5" barrel. What about maximum loads? Thanks, Erik Edited November 27, 2008 by Erik T
Joe4d
I dont care for Universal in 40. Unless that is all you have. I got huge standard deviations with it. It is also slow burning. But if thats what you have it's what you have. Based on laser cast data I would expect 4.5 grs to put you at about 170 pf maybe less as Precisions run a little faster than cast. If you are practicing for minor or IDPA I would drop to 4 grs and see if the gun cycles and throws the brass reliably.
Merlin Orr
When you run out of Universal try AA#2 - Titegroup or Solo 1000.
