TRNinTX
I took my five year old granddaughter to the range last night. She has held and fired a Buckmark with my help before, but we took the P22 off of the rental board last night since it is smaller. I talked to her about gun safety and how to grip the gun before we went out on the range. When we got on the range she took the proper grip and started shooting, at first with me helping her hold the gun, then by herself. After a couple of mags she was putting most of her shots on paper at 10 ft. (better than some of the CHL qualifiers we run). Two things lead me to believe she will be a serious shooter in the future. A piece of brass came out of the gun and got between her glasses and cheek. She calmly let go with one hand, moved her glasses to let the brass fall out and started shooting again. I didn't realize what had happened until we finished and she turned around and I saw the mark on her cheek. She shot a box of ammo and I told her we needed to rest, her comment to me was "Papaw, did you bring more ammo?" Time to give here some reactive targets and work on sight alignment/trigger control. I think BJ and I will have her ready for Steel Challenge in a couple of years

B.Fine
I bought my kids thier own P22s and an airsoft P22 a while back. They work on safe gun handling with the airsoft, so when they get to the range its just a matter of repetition. How nice is it to not have to load mags for either of them? =-) The P22 has paid off as a starter for my mini juniors. boz1911
Ammo's cheap, but loading those mags can be a pain. Good job PawPaw.!!
Jim Norman
About 7 years ago my daughter was at a match wathcing with her mother.during a down time, she asked if she could try. We had a Ruger .22 and loaded it with one round. I held the gun up, but she aimed it and hit a piece of seel. She asked could she do it again, so we ran a few shots, then she asked if she could shoot my gun. I loaded one round, and held the gun, but she aimed and pulled the trigger. Her eyes got saucer sized, her two comments were; "WOW!" and "Can I run through the course?! She was 4 years old. Kids learning how to shoot and do it safely is a good thing. It is the unsupervised kids that get into trouble. Jim
